David is right on this one. 99% sure it would be the accumulator. I had the same problem, replaced the accumulator, and it fixed it. However, it seems odd that you should have to wait several hours... I would also check the thermotime switch. If you smell a lot of gas it could be stuck closed, flooding the engine. Simply pull the electrical plug on the switch and try to start it.
