I looked into remanufacturing the flex circuit a few years back. All Craig raido flex circuits will fail if you use the tape deck. There are no exceptions. The technology in flexible cicuits in 1977 (which is when that radio was developed) really didn't support the application. The radius of the bend is too small, the amount of the bend is too great, and the interior of an automobile is too harsh for the materials used. Strength isn't the problem, flexibility is. What seems an obvious primary solution is a thin coat of clear silicone seal, front and back, at the break point. That would add strength where desperately needed and would certainly maintain or enhance flexibility. I think it would also move that flex point slightly, anyone disagree with any of this? Frank, your spin?
