The answer is obvious: don't reinstall the interior trim. :-) I'm sorry, but I laughed SOOOoooo hard when I read your message, because I've had that happen time and time again: everything works great until I put the last screw back in, and then it stops working again. I joke that I always leave out one screw so that the thing doesn't realize that I've put it back together. :-) But in this case I'm betting it coincidence. My guess would be that the act of closing the door either jars something loose or slightly torques the door enough to cause the problem. Alas, I don't know the solution. I'm sure somebody knows, though, since it's a common problem, it just hasn't happened to me.
