Dear DeLorean friends- After nearly a year of looking, lurking, leering and learning, we finally bought our D! All you teenage would-be buyers will appreciate this: my son Richard (age 16, owner of a '55 Chevy Belair,) was the one who got me interested. At first I told him to get me off the DML (!) because it was clogging up my e-mail, and why kid ourselves... we're never gonna buy a DeLorean, so why waste our time reading all these posts. I've been a Corvette fan since I was a little kid, and if anything, I wanted to get a 'Vette before I hit 50, which is next year. He began printing out daily lists from Trader Online listing D's for sale, downloading cool pictures from websites and posting them on the wall of my office. He even used Photoshop to fake a photo of himself proudly leaning against the open door of a D, holding the key. (Today we shot that photo for real!) Well, I soon found myself reading his DML e-mail, then set up a separate screen name just for the DML. At a car show last spring we met Gary Gore of De Lorean Mid Atlantic, owner of the first D we actually saw in the "flesh." That's when I was hooked! After spotting one for sale in the newspaper, I began looking at D's for sale in the Philadelphia area. (We live in South Jersey.) Every owner we spoke to was very patient and generous with their time, such as Marty, a DML moderator who we've corresponded with. So on Saturday we took possession... I haven't had such a thrill since the last time I went skydiving. Yeehaah! The bank actually owns it! But I get to drive it. Rick doesn't have a license yet. Somebody told him he'll have the pick of who he wants to go to the prom with him. Hmmm... let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Rick did all the salesmanship, but it's still MY D! As in DeLorean and "debt." It's an '82 gray interior 5 speed with 12,560 miles. So, the adventure and the questions are just beginning... ;) Wayne and Rick VIN ...11174 (At last!)
