Hello everyone, I'm probably getting very annoying to some people, but I'll take that for granted... If you've got any comments on what is written below, please respond to me personally at Jan@xxxx but be warned that I will forward anything I think to be relevant to the moderators: my only goal is to make this list an even more pleasurable "place to be" In spite of the automated message saying: "Before posting messages or replies, see the posting policy rules at: www.dmcnews.com/Admin/rules.html " in every digest, it seems no-one has aqtually ever read them... To quote a few points: > (6) KISS -- Keep It Short and Simple. Trim quoted material, > and keep your signatures short. Messages carrying more than one > prior message will probably be rejected. Today there was a message with 136 (!) lines of quoted material (three previous posts)... The actual message was only 10 lines INCLUDING the personal Sign-off... Trimming should also include removing all (automated) footers in your quote like "Do you Yahoo" or the "Before posting messages or replies, see the posting policy rules at: www.dmcnews.com/Admin/rules.html" There is no need for everyone to see two or more of these messages underneath of eachother... > (7) Use an appropriate subject. Summarize your post in the subject. > Descriptive subjects get more attention. In my opinion this also means: check if the subject is still relevant when responding: today DMC-Joe responded to a question regarding their 260k "D", but the subject of that particular post read "Re: Brake Master Cylinder Interchange". (Nothing personal, just a good example) > (10) Set your email program to submit inline text. HTML or other formatting > works very unreliably and sometimes will not come through at all. Most people reading the list on the InterNet or recieving it as separate messages will not be bothered by this, but as a Digest-reader (I get enough single mails as it is) the HTML-formatting is repeated below the posting in Plain text! Reason for this is that the Digest gets sent out as plain text, so the recipient's mailer doesn't know it has to interpret HTML becuase the neccesary headers are not in the message. The InterNet is PURE HTML, so there's no problem there and when recieving single emails, each mail "tells" the mail-program wheter it's text or HTML. So PLEASE TURN HTML OFF! If you don't know how to do so, drop me a line stating which mailer you use and I'll try to help you figure it out...
