[DML] DeLorean vs. Fiero GT

I am not a DeLorean expert by any means, but I do notice some striking
similarities between the DeLorean and the Fiero GT fastback. I own an '87
Fiero GT, which is for sale by the way if any one is interested, and love
the car. The Fiero is in showroom condition, and is flawless! I hope to buy
a DeLorean too to park along side of it...two beautiful cars. Here are some
similarities I found:
1. The DeLorean is a rear-engine car, while the Fiero is a mid-engine.
Horsepower is nearly equivalent - (the DeLorean being at about 130hp, while
the Fiero GT is about 145hp.) DeLorean has a PRV - V-6, while the Fiero has
a GM 60* V-6. I believe the DeLorean engine is a 60* too, isn't it? Both are
fuel injected...mechanical and electrical.
2. Both cars have VERY similar suspension systems, and both incorporate
larger tires in the rear as a result of the engine lay out.
3. Exterior and interior similarities are limitless!!! The Interior of the
Fiero feels and looks very similar to the DeLorean...with a high center
console, control layout is nearly identical, and visibility is somewhat
limited, although better in the Fiero. The car almost identical in height,
close in width, but the DeLorean is longer. Exterior - the Fiero and
DeLorean have quarter windows, side moldings, and similar tail-lights.
Perhaps these are stretches, but was there any DeLorean oriented motivation
behind GMs Fiero project. I know it began in the early eighties, to compete
with the Fiat X19. First model Fieros came out in '84 a year after DMC went
bankrupt. Just thought I would try and get some more info on this.
Thanks,
Sean
