In "Stainless Steel Illusion" it refers a couple of times to the fact that the stainless steel panels are easily removable, that the idea was at one time to offer alternative-removable plastic body panels. This would lead to a car that could be turned into any color relatively quickly. My questions are: 1) I'm assuming that this would not include the stainless door panels 2) Has this ever been attempted? 3) If not, given that we are speaking of molded plastic and not metal, would it be expensive to do? 4) Was this deemed impractical for some reason? 5) Is there a connection between the superstrong plastic that JZDeLorean had/has a patent on and this application? I have been on this list for some time and don't recall anyone mentioning this very interesting, perhaps unique feature of the DeLorean... which would make it easy to keep the original stainless look and also have a "colored" alternative...
