Forget about it ! The battery is not the cause of your clunking sound. BTW: the battery will stay in place by gravity unless you flip the car upside down. The clunking noise can emanate from two different areas. First check the trailing arm bolts and bushing fasteners. However, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to accomplish that with the given straps and latch mechanism.
