Gus,
Get or borrow a coolant pressure tester. Hook it up and
put 15 psi on the system. You will probably start seeing coolant coming
out before you get up to 15 psi. This will tell you where the leak is.
After you fix where the leak, pressure test the system again. It should
hold 15 psi for 15 min.
Hope this helps,
Duke
After driving yesterday in the 100+ degree Texas heat, I noticed a
slight antifreeze-like smell in the garage. Sure enough, today I found
a few ounces of the green stuff on the garage floor. It wasn't leaking
at the time, but when I removed the radiator cap (resevoir cap?) the fluid
started flowing freely. I can't see exactly where from, but it's on
the ignition-timing marks and is dripping from just above. Since all
the hoses are six months old, I'm inclined to believe that my water pump has
failed.
So
my question to you, dear reader, is: do you agree with my diagnosis?
And if so, do you think I should attempt to tackle this problem
myself? And how many beers will it require?
