If a head unit is designed to perform with four separate amplified outputs (with minimal distortion, proper load balancing and high reliability - even at high volume - and even with the balance or fader controls near their extremes), why would anyone want to short the floating grounds of these separate, clean outputs together? Some of the suggested "common floating ground" solution mentioned "might" work with "some" amps, without "significant" reduction in performance, (at least for a while) but I sure wouldn't want to be the one responsible for telling people not to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
