I would be careful about "going crazy" with soundproofing materiel. The heavy rubber stuff with the adhesive on one side adds a lot of weight. The careful use of it might be OK but you can use all the fiberglass fill you want with almost no weight penalty. Before adding a lot of soundproofing materiel check out the weatherstripping around the doors. Replacing them with new door seals will make a BIG difference and there is no weight penalty. Check all the openings under the dash and seal them up too. Another spot is the rear window. Make sure it is sealed all around especailly on the bottom. You reduce road noise and you will reduce the drafts. Not only do you want a good sounding sound system, you don't want the car to move like a slug! Because the car is already underpowered any additional weight will have a big impact on performance. My DeLorean is a good example of how a DeLorean with speakers in their stock positions can make great sound. My car has 4 Rockford Fosgate speakers in the stock DeLorean positions, a JVC CD player, and a Pioneer Bass tube with built in amplifier. It sounds terrific, will rattle your brains out if you so desire, while bringing out percussion and guitar parts you never knew existed in your favorite songs.
