I'll second David T's electrical suspicions. An old mechanic once told me that 9 out of 10 engine problems are electrical. My own experiences have since verified him correct. Did it to myself recently on the DeLo: Reinstalling all those wires on the hot side of the starter solenoid, I accidently allowed one eye to contact someplace that created a dead short. Engine started and ran just fine until I lost the negative side of the battery (which of course killed ignition). Since the battery was now dead too, didn't take long to diagnose what I'd done. Yet another electrical engine problem. Have since run a single pigtail from the solenoid to a mid air wire junction (wrapped in electrical tape) to make future starter motor reinstallation easier.
