Don't use vacuum hose for a permanent bleeder installation - it's carrying HOT coolant. Must be heater-type hose. Vendor kits will save you a lot of running around. Both the fitting ant 5/16 heater hose seem to be hard to find sometimes. If you are just bleeding it, 1/4" is about right but the end on the OEM bleeder is so short it easily falls off. Actually the thread on the thermostat housing is M1.0 pipe thread, same as many metric brake bleeder fittings.
