Have you checked fuse number 10? It is a fuse socket with a history
of meltdown. That fuse also runs blower speeds one and two. You
didn't mention if those blower speeds worked.
If that is not it I would check the mode switch connections and then
the mode switch itself.
You're on the right track it sounds like - electrical, not
mechanical.

This conversion must look bizarre! Plus, I would not have guessed that
the whole window would fit in the door. Did you put in new window

I also don't bother with the drive-thru. In my experience, it's usually faster to go inside than through the drive-thru anyway.
aaron_t_graham <aaron_t_graham@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:I've never had problems getting a bag full of food or a large drink

The reason I don't use a drive-thru is simply because the drive-thru
workers feel they need to go through the entire ritual of bringing
every employee in the restaurant up to the window to gawk and point at
your car -- you end up being an inconvenience to those in line behind
you. Either that, or the employees just stare with their eyes wide
and jaws dropped, paying very little attention to the fact that you
also asked for ketchup and salt.
I use the drive-thru about once a year, just to remind myself why I
don't use the drive-thru.

P.S. I was just a toddler back then, but I'm pretty sure there were
lots of drive-thrus and drive-ins when the cars were designed.

Currently, the water pump is turning, and not making any unusual
noises. Alternator is also turning freely.
The thermostat was changed out 3 weeks ago, and has been functioning
properly. On the day of the belt/hose failure, I had been running the
car around town and it was running at the correct temperature.
The hose that popped off was one that I had recently replaced, so
there is a definite possibilty that it was not installed tightly
enough.
Bleeding the radiator: Can I reach this bleed-off tube that Harold
mentioned without the car being on a lift or ramps?

From: "David Teitelbaum" <jtrealty@xxxxxxxxxxx>
Subject: Re: A/C Failure
The most likely cause of your trouble is that you have a leak and the
pressure is too low on the low side for the A/C to run. Most A/C shops
shoot a little freon in and charge the customer a lot and they are
happy for a season but the leak that was never fixed causes the A/C to
die again, a great recipe for repeat business! Do not run the A/C with
the plug jumpered for more than a few seconds to verify that it is
what is holding back the compressor from running. If you run the
system with too low a pressure on the suction side it can go below
atmospheric meaning you could actually suck air and moisture into the
system through the leak! This is very bad because of the moisture and
air. The moisture will corrode the system inside and the air will
raise the high side pressures making the system run very hard and hot.
The best thing you can do is to have the freon recovered, pressure
test and fix the leak or leaks, replace the dryer and orifice tube,
change the oil, vacuum the system and replace the freon. This is
usually way beyond the average garage mechanic, the equipment is
expensive. Since this really shouldn't need to be done often find the
best shop you can and get the work done once but RIGHT! Any GM dealer
should be able to get the parts and do the work right. Don't be afraid
of staying with R-12. Even though it is $60 a pound you only need 2.2
#. The big money will be in the labor, the time to do the work right
is the real expense.

Subject: Re: Looking at a new CD radio--need advice
Anything will be an improvement over the old Craig unit. Do hold on to it though for when you want to turn your car back to original one day. Also purchase a radio mounting bracket like this one from DMC-Houston http://www.delorean.com/gift_ideass/bracket.asp . You have to either purchase one of these, or grind out your old bracket, because it was made for a shaft style cassette player... a CD player will not fit into the dash without one of the other afformentioned modifications.
I personally really like the Pioneer DEH-P6500... a former list member had one in his car, and it was awesome! It had an "Organic EL display" which played video screensavers while the car was on... it was really neat, and in keeping with the DeLoreans futuristic style. They're also fairly affordable too- go to www.crutchfield.com and search for that model. I've got a Sony CD/mp3 player that was installed by my cars previous owner... and I'm considering switching it out for the Pioneer unit... I liked it that much.

From: Martin Gutkowski <webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
Subject: Re: What Tires to get??
On 5 Aug 02 Kayo Ong wrote a good dissertation on tyres having tried out
all the major brands available. I agree wholeheartedly that the Pirellis
are an excellent choice so I'm copying his post here. Since he wrote it,
a couple of points have come up: The Michelin Pilots feel a lot like the
Pirellis and (at least in Europe) the P600 has been superceeded by the
P6000 on the front. The new P6000 are V rated, and the P600s are still
available on the back and are W rated.
Martin
------
I had P600 in the front and in the rear for over a year, before I put on
"two" sets of Yokohomas AVS on my DeLorean. Yes, I had two sets of Yokos AVS
on my DeLorean in the last three years. The Yokos' threads don't last long.
They are great riding tires ... but they don't last long.
It was four years ago in the month of May 1998, when I needed new tires to
attend Ken Koncelik's first DeLorean Show held at Cincinnati, Ohio in 1998.
I wanted to replace my Dunlops that I had for little over a year and I wasn't
happy with the ride nor its handling abilities, besides the Dunlops I had,
they had very little threads left and I also need tires right away as to
attend the show.
I wanted a set of Yokohama's AVS and they were not available, not even form
the US Yoko Distributor that I called and they claim it was on the freight
boat from Japan and due to arrive in mid July of that year. The Tire Rack
and many other tire distributors did not stock any tires of the same
manufacture for the front and rear sizes. Either they have the fronts or the
rears. There were no tires at all to be found, from any tire distributors to
fit the DeLorean. So, I desperately did some research and found that the
Pirelli P600s were available for the fronts and the rears from a very large
tire center some 10 miles from me. The P600s had different speed rating, but
that is okay for my usage, beside they were cosmetically all the same. I had
ordered them by phone and had them mounted on my DeLorean immediately when
they arrived. After driving the P600s a year and a half, I had replaced them
with Yokohama's AVS that were available from PJ Grady. There was nothing
wrong with the P600s that was on my DeLorean, I was just curious as to the
ride of the Yokos which everyone was "raving" about on the DML News. I
wanted to experience this "rave" for myself.
The Yokohama's AVS have the same high speed rating for the front and rear ...
the P600s are not...only the rear are high speed rated and the fronts have a
lower speed rating. Folks, don't worry, unless you have a different motor
than the standard PVR, your DeLorean will NEVER exceed the lower rating of
the P600s. The Yokohama's AVS looks rounder-"fat," while the P600s are
"squarer" looking and its "visual" flows well with the contour of the
DeLorean ... IMO. P600s and the Yokos are both good tires. I personally
like the looks of the Pirellis P600s and the ride is slightly different then
the Yokohama's AVS. The Yokos ride is softer, slightly quieter and holds the
road "just" a bit better in the rain. The P600s is great on dry roads and
slight better in the snow, from two to three inches ... the Yokos are NOT
good in snow at all... not even in 1/2" of snow.
I have driven many long road trips, at times for over 18 hours per run on
both of these brands of tires and the conclusion is that they both have
different qualities that I can live with... The P600 makes the DeLorean run
and handle like a sport car, harder stiffer ... the Yokos yields a nice
"rich-luxurious" ride (Cadillac ride). The Yokos and PJ Grady's shocks are a
great combination ... given the DeLorean a great ride! BUT, on my next set
of tires... I will fit them with P600s again. I like them just a lit bit
better ... for that sports car "feel" and especially for the winter
(emergency) snow travel. I don't like slipping in the thinnest of snow.
Again... to each their own...... I hope this helps.

Hello List,
I was at a local car show on the 4th with #17006 and attracted alot
of attention. One man was giving my car a close inspection. I went
over to see if he had any questions and in a British accent he said
no, he had never seen a DeLorean before and just wanted to see where
his tax dollars went. He liked the car.
He had come over for the re-enactment of the Battle of Gettysburg

The aftermarket cupholders that are available from the
DeLorean Motor Center are superb! They hold varying
sizes of cups (adjustable) very solidly and securely.
No modifications to your car are necessary and they
can be easily removed for a return to stock
appearance.
I've had mine installed for well over a year and love
them. With the long distance driving I do in my D, I
wouldn't be without them.

Now, I've had plenty of people gawk at me in my DeLorean, and also
not quite a few macho guys who try so hard to not look interested
that they look funny not looking. However, today I had the most
interesting of gawkers.
I had a helicopter come and position himself off me and follow me for
about 5 miles. At first I thought it was a coincidence, but then I
realized he/she was matching my speed and following off my drivers
side close enough for a good look and even with me. This was after
cirlcling around me for the complete view! 60 MPH is pretty slow for
a helicopter too.
I may be loosing money by not keeping the miles low, but I am making
up for it in the value of diving a fun car that is fun to look at.
Kind of like driving around Disney World.
After about 2 months I have already been photographed 5 times that I
saw. I am in the photograph with several folks as well who wanted a
picture with me and my DeLorean. I've had pretty coops at work come
up and ask for a ride, acting like school girls.
One time I came out from the Drs. office and a girl was taking a
picture. She saw me and panicked, as if it was a big no-no. She
turned around and pretended to be taking a picture of her car.
Problem was, her Mom was in the car and shouted out, "It must be his
car! Get a picture of him with his car!" She asked if it would be
alright and I said, "Why do you think I drive it? To enjoy it and for
others to enjoy it!"
Got any stories you'd like to share? I'd love to hear other stories!

Subject: DMCH struts
I'd like to correct this bit of misinformation that has been going around.
The new door struts sold by DMC (Texas) are NOT the incorrect length. Our
new struts ($39.95 each) have been remanufactured exclusively for us to the
original specification, from the original drawings. The only differences at
this point are the black nitride finish on the shafts, and the ends are
"screw-on" rather than crimped on.
Our previous supplier sent us a couple batches (about 50 or so) of struts
with a slightly longer screw-on end that resulted in them not closing
completely on certain cars (about 1 in 6 or 8, based on the molds used to
make the underbody, near as we can ascertain). We no longer use this
supplier for any struts on the car, or any other parts, for that matter. If
anyone has any of these longer ends, send me an email and I can replace them
for you.
The louvre and luggage compartment struts ($19.95 each) are also
remanufactured for us, now as well.
A complete six-strut set is $139.95, and these are the same ones that will
be available from our stockist in the United Kingdom (hopefully in August!).

Hello again everyone;
A few months ago I sent out an email for any gulf coast DMC's to
email me so we could see about planning a gathering. As embarassed
as I am to admit this, my computer was completely wiped and I lost
the list. Could the ones who I have been in contact with please
email me privately at dmc83n99@xxxxxxx?
Thanks!
Scott

I would love to see some digital pics of this conversion. Exactly how
did they work again?

This conversion must look bizarre! Plus, I would not have guessed that
the whole window would fit in the door. Did you put in new window
tracks/etc?

There is usually a code written above the driver's side door headliner.
It is between 7,000-9,999 and usually has an X at the end.
That the ignition code for two-key cars and the only code for one-key cars.
If you have a two-key car... I don't know. The only one I've tried so far
only had the door code. Never could get a key cut for that one. I've asked,
but no other two-key cars owners have told me if they have both codes
written up there or not. Or if there is an ignition code anywhere else.

This past Easter I was meeting some people for lunch at a nice resturant. I
stopped on the way to buy flowers from this little girl and her mother who were
selling flowers on the side of the road. The little girl said, "hey! it's the
back to the future car!" and her mother just smiled. The little girl asked me
where I got it and I told her I got it in Maryland. She then whirled around and
pleaded, "Mom! we HAVE to go to maryland right away!!!" I chuckled to myself at
her thinking that's where these cars come from while I drove away and went to
dinner.

Bob often mentions the "97 DeLorean(tm)" - here's the background info on
the windows, link out to get to the whole story on the car.
