Adjust the shifter linkage as per the Workshop Manual (You do have ine
right?). Replace the clutch master AND slave cyliners AND the plastic
hydraulic line connecting them.
Check to see if the wire is attached to the temp sensor which is
located on the front of the engine on the right side.
Get a Tankzilla if having an accurate fuel guage is important to you.
The wobbly steering could be any or all of the following:
Bad tires (how old are they?)
Low tire pressures (the tire pressures on on the glove box door)
worn or bent steering and suspension parts
needs an alignment
bent rim
out of balance tire
You should also check that the car has had the recalls done, upgrade
the relays and circuit breakers, get a Fanzilla or something to
replace the fan fail relay or the bypass, change ALL of the fluids,
belts, and hoses, and pressure test the cooling system.

Your shifter problem could be the roller pin, or something in the clutch hydraulics. My reservoir bottle has been as low as 3/4 full, and the car still shifts fine. It's still very possible that your car doesn't want to shift into the gears because there isn't enough pressure to release the clutch. If this is the case, you will have to replace your original plastic clutch line with a braided stainless one, and get new master and slave cylinders. The original plastic lines will expand under pressure in their old age, not allowing the clutch to disengage fully. Look closely behind your clutch pedal where the clutch linkage meets the master cylinder. If you see signs of leakage... you'll need a master cylinder as well. Again... leaking means you're not getting full pressure in your system. An adjustable clutch link is also a necessity in a DeLorean, IMO. This is a little gadget that attaches the clutch pedal to the master cylinder, and is adjustable for length... thus adjusting the amount of travel the master cylinder makes. I think John Hervey sells them www.specialtauto.com .
Your wobbly steering is possibly tires with flat spots... if the car was only driven 500 miles in 16 years, and the car still only has 16k on it, it's very possible you're still running on the original Goodyear NCTs... and they have flat spots from sitting for long periods of time.
You probably need a new tank sending unit... pick a Tankzilla up from PJ Grady if you want a bulletproof product www.pjgrady.com . I think that covers everything but your temperature gague.... I'll let someone else help you there.

Wow! This has been an interesting thread to read!
I just have to add:
I never joined the DOA. (not cuase of anything that people told me
etc... Just cause I never really saw the need)
However.. I think the DML is an incredable resource! You cant deny it!
Hundreds of members swapping stories, and information from ALL OVER THE
WORLD in almost real time... Its great!
True, some things are wrong, some things are stupid, some conversations
are silly, but you know what... Sometimes I like to read things like
that. It helps keep the forum from going stale.
DML is a great resource (and I am sure the the DOA is also) but me being
in Generation X instantly gravitate twords the high tech solution. The
DML can be searched in just a few seconds, and typically yields the
information you need!
BTW: *Generation X includes birthyear 1960-1979 (Many people don’t
realize this fact, so I thought I would pop it in here.) So all those
14-18 year olds out there who think they are GenX are wrong. ;)

- Yes, there may occasionally be some bad advice in DML, but it is
usually
caught PDQ! And that is nothing compared to advice from some non-D
shops!

When I bought my D it came with an almost complete set of more than 12

of the DOA magazine from the original owner. Yes, there was a lot of
information in there for a neophyte owner and it took many hours of page

I had a rudimentary index completed. I liked what I saw and became a DOA
member. I also tried to collect the missing issues in the magazine
collection, for
a while.
I found out about the DML fraternity early on and have obtained
immensely
much more information here than in all other sources combined.
The unsung heroes are the DML Moderators. Who are the heroes at DOA?
Am I still a DOA member?
No, I did not think it was worth the cost and I didn't need another
glitzy
magazine that was far different and lacking items of interest, compared
to the
old ones that I have.
No, DOA is certainly not an altruistic group, but DML most assuredly is!
The animosity between the two is really a shame, because a positive
synergism
could be of mutual benefit to everybody involved. That will never
happen as
long as arrogance rules on one side.

hi everyone....
I am having the dents in my door fixed soon, and all this bad weather
combined with the fact that my car was injured has made me miss driving
it.
Also, the Delorean Mid-Atlantic club has recently gained some new
members who have contacted me with many questions, and a desire to meet
other owners.
Putting all this together, I was wondering if anyone would like to do a
Summer "Fun Run" in Mid-late July. Perhaps meeting somewhere in Central
NJ, and then going on a short road trip. I would like our destination
to be some kind of a BBQ or nice outdoor resteraunt for a lunch or early
dinner. This would give new members/owners a chance to

Usually antifreeze in oil gets whipped into milky white foam, but you
may not have run long enough for that to happen.
Fuel smell is probably from misfires. Cylinder full of water isn't
going to burn. Will dilute oil.
Of course watery oil may just be these light weight oils everybody
seem intent on running. Didn't object last time topic was raised, but
multi viscosity oil isn't worth 2 cents. Is nothing more than 5 or 10
weight oil (can you say "3 in 1") with wonder additives and elixers.
Ever notice guys at the track run straight oil, usually 40 or 50
weight? I'm not suggesting anything that thick, but you could do worse
than 30 weight. Wonder additives don't last, especially in a harsh
environment. Rear engine PRV qualifies as harsh. Is hotter than a
baker's oven back there.
Have you pulled any spark plugs yet? One indication of leaking head
gasket is rust on electrode. Of course you may not have run engine
long enough for that to happen.

LMC is an interesting topic. Since it's post trial, no much has been
written about it. So here is the condensed, "in-a-nutshell" rundown.
Both DMC (DeLorean Motor Company), and LMC (Logan Manufacturing
Company) are seperate companies, with no relation whatsoever, except
for the fact that they're owned by John Z. De Lorean. I've gotten
seperate reports, but I do believe that the company was acquired
around the same time that DMC had it's beginings in the late 70's.
I'm not into industrial snow grooming equipment, so I don't know all
of the specifics on the tractors. But from what I've read, the LMC
groomers were quite popular in their time due to their ease of
maintenance, and use of common, interchangable parts. Unfortunetly,
the company ultimately went under, as a casualty of JZD's financial
woes from his own laywers (and lack of proper reinvestment to make it
salable).

Since you are in Northern California, you might consider attending a
meeting of the NCDMC. we meet monthly or so. There is a ton of Delorean
expertise represented among the members, and I'm sure you can get some
worthwhile advice on how to pick the right Delorean for you. At any one
meeting we will have from 5 to 10 Deloreans in attendance, so if you
have not had a chance to see a collection of D's in various states of
restoration, it would be a great opportunity to do so. I see that you
have looked into acquiring a painted D... One of the members has just
finished stripping and regraining his once painted Delorean, so you
could get some insight from him too.

Hi,
While driving this afternoon all of a sudden I heard a strange
noise from the back, it sounded like a sort of "shrieky whistle"
and increased with giving more throttle.
First thing that came to mind was the blowoff from the cooling,
caused by a blown head gasket, so I stopped immediately...
My coolant was still in the system, under pressure and the
blowoff hose was dry. My oillevel was still right and there
was no foam evident on the oil...
I guess I can rule out the headgasket...
The temp on the Gauge was on the "7:30"position, where it's been
all day (runnning the A/C and driving no faster than 50mph...
When I listen in the engine bay and give throttle at the spool
the sound seems to come from the left front, with the covers
down it sounds like it's coming from the right rear :-S
My belts are both intact and under the right tension, the fins
on my Alternator are all straight and don't hit anything...
Could this "whislte" come from an exhaust gasket?
I have a leaky gastket between the right hand manifold and block
nearest the X-over pipe (will be fixed after next weekend),
could a gasket be "whistling"?
I really don't feel comfortable with my car right now; I drove it
home as it was only 20 miles, so a tow would be easy if neccesary.
The sound went away after a couple of miles, but returned when
I drove into my neighbourhood...
Next weekend there's an event I'm supposed to go to, but that's
125 miles from here, so I'd like to know what this could have been
before I drive off, running the risk of something REALLY going kaput.
I'm under my car anyway next wednesday, as I'm installing an extra speed
sensor on the driveshaft then, so I'd like to know where I should look.
It'd be a real shame if I had to get into my '92 Nissan next week,
to drive around next to cars that are 10 to 15 years older :-(

Subject: Harada Power Antennae
I was searching for a replacement mast for a Harada antennae (the kind
used on the Deloreans). I contacted Harada directly and have been told
they are no longer providing aftermarket services. If you have a major
brand they will still provide the parts to the dealers and their parts
networks (like car dealers). What this means to us is that once the
parts inventory is used up Harada will no longer supply. They told me
PEP BOYS has a large inventory right now. I think we have to find a
replacement for Harada for the long term. In the meantime I am looking
for a black replacement mast, I think it is an RX-20. The other # is
have is PRXMB-5. It is supposed to be the replacement mast for the
Harada MQB-2 power antennae? Also there must be someone else's mast
that would be a direct replacement? Does any other list member have
info on the power antennae?

Subject: Oil drain plug
When I pulled the oil drain plug out it turned out to not be a drain
plug at all. It was a standard thread sparkplug thread saver
plugged with a blot that had FIAT stamped on the head.
someone had tried to JB Weld this mess in place so there was
a huge blob of stuff where the oil plug should tighten up against
the oil pan.
Got it all cleaned up and a new drain plug of the proper size in
place and all is good.
Also, a few months ago I posted in reference to only one cooling
fan working. I finally tracked it down to one the wires that goes
into the fan fail socket. It was installed in the slot that should be
the ground tab. I relocated one leg of the fan fail bypass and
solved the issue.

I have anticipated those concerns as problem. It is quite a large task just maintaining te car, let alone document it.
As for the server space and picture resolution for dial up folks ill take a look at what could be possible to do.
Obviously there would have to be volunteers to do this one peron alone could not. A standard could however be set as to picture resolution and content. Or even better, the person can just submit the large resolution pictures and an unformatted instructional. where a volunteer could bring it to the web site standard and submit it to an official list.
Yes i imagine digital cameras would be most effective here. I have a new sony one. Ill make some sort of QUICK example and post it. Ill send the link out to the DMCNEWS site

Check the two idler pulley bearings on the "vee" belt going to the A/C
compressor. You can actually remove the belt and run the motor. If the
noise goes away turn the pulleys by hand. They should turn smoothly
with no noise. The bearings in the pulleys can be replaced. Another
more expensive possability is the water pump. The bearings in it can
go bad and that will require replacement of the water pump. Exhaust
noises usually don't come and go, they just get worse slowly.

Last call!
This is the weekend for fun, freebies, and meeting people with similar interests in sharing a dream and driving one! Come visit us in Canada for a DeLorean cruise, show and shine. We are a short 2 hour drive from Detroit.( or shorter, if you disregard the speed limit)
I have, on good information from a person on high, that the weather will be perfect in Canada this coming weekend. The snow has been gone for many hours ---- just joking ---- today is about 72 degrees, sunny and a little breezy. The trees are full with green fullness, the flowers are spectacular, and yesterday I went for a swim in the pool.
It appears we will double the get together we had 2 years ago, if everyone shows up. Cars will be here from Ohio, Michigan, N.Y., Ontario, St. Louis, Mo., 2 magazines will be represented, and who knows .....! We will have both stainless and painted cars here.
The cruise will be interesting and fun, lunch on the beach, fun dinner location, and lots of freebies, including a free custom printed beer stein, only for participants.

Subject: Low end hesitation
Since last fall, my car has been having some low-end hesitation
issues. Those continued into this year, and resulted in mid-driving
misses that convinced me I could not make it back to MN from Chicago
4 weeks ago (but I did).
I figured the reason was a worn out ignition system, as the car has
gone over 35,000 since the tuneup I gave it in spring of 2001. This
past weekend, I gave the car its wanted tuneup. I replaced the fuel
filter, Oxygen sensor, distributor cap/rotor, wires, plugs, and coil.
The car seemed to be running just fine this weekend when I was
driving it around. But last night it felt as if the low end
hesitations were continuing. Its most noticeable when I let the
clutch out at low RPMs (approx idle). It seems like it will be a
smooth start, but twords the end of the clutch pedal travel, the car
lurches, and misses severely. It normally doesn't stall, but at WOT
the engine will stay at about idle speed with no sign that it wants
to speed up. I need to disengage the clutch again to get the engine
revving once again before I can get going.
Another problem I noted yesterday, is that upon rapid deceleration,
in gear, with a closed throttle, if I disengage the clutch at low
RPMs, the engine almost stalls, and if I disengage it around 1000 RPM
or so the engine will stall.
A few other things to note about my car...
Valves were adjusted in September 2002.
There has been a fluxuating idle issue since fall 2001 that I've
never been able to pinpoint. (doesn't do it all the time, but is
more of a fluxuation than the LAMBDA system should allow, A/C always
smoothes it out, and never did it while cold)
There are ABSOLUTELY no vacumme leaks that I have been able to
identify. (I've gone up and down every point of the engine more times
than I can count)
Solenoid Valve is working as it should.
So with that said, suggestions?

You probably won't find one this way. This is a unique-to-the-
Delorean part and has a pretty high failure rate. About $45 from the
DMC places last time I bought one. . .

I would love to see more people spend the extra time to document their
work for the benefit of the group. But, why reinvent the wheel? The
DMCNews Techsection (http://www.dmcnews.com/techmain.htm) is a
well-established venue for this kind of thing. Dave Swingle does a
great job of organizing and maintaining this resource and he is very
responsive in helping contributors to get their works up promptly. It
is a fair amount of work to do a good job at this (what with cleaning
the grease stains from your keyboard and all :-)), but knowing you've
contributed your little bit to DeLorean posterity is pretty rewarding.
