I investigated whether Phillips made the black headlight in the style of
the DeLorean headlights a nu mber of years ago. (I talked directly to
Phillips and they had no plans to manufacture the 6001 series) Unless
they have begun to make new production. The ones that are available are
to big for the D.

Hi Adam,
Over here in the UK I did a bit of research about the tyres that would
fit my car. The best choice (surprisingly in terms of price also) was
the Pirelli P600/P6000 combo. The P6000 superceeds the P600, but you can
only get the fronts in P6000 and the rears in P600. There's no white
lettering on either tyre and although the tread pattern is different,
the text on the sidewall is identical (except one says P600 and one says
P6000 - duh :-)
I didn't like the look of my car when the tyres got dusty so I invested
the grand sum of £3.50 in a bottle of Halfords "Wet Look Tyre Dressing".
This stuff comes in a spray bottle (one with the lever you pump) and you
just spray onto the tyres. I would say it's the best £3.50 I've spent on
improving the look of my DeLorean! It lasts for weeks and stops dirt
getting stuck on the tyre. It also makes that funny ribbed bit appear
really well - you can see it in this picture:

Since getting my Pirellis on the DeLorean, I needed to change the tyres
on my Citroen Xantia. I went for P6000s again because I was impressed
with how quiet and sticky they are, and how good they are in the wet.
The Xantia has computer controlled active roll correction which
encourages sprited cornering - the P6000s leave the previous Michelins
for dead.
The only text on the sidewall (apart from the "small print") is "P6000"
and the Pirelli logo. They are V rated and the P600s are W.

I can't see any reason why you wouldn't expect a similar performance
improvement. One thing's for sure though, these guys really know what
they're doing, as I hope you can see from their website.

this to make money (honest), and a rolling road session costs a bit.

There is another way to install a battery master switch and still keep
the radio and clock alive. Install the master switch normally, pull
the fuse that feeds the clock-radio and on the side that feeds power
TO the radio insert a connecter attached to a wire. In the wire add a
line fuse of the appropriate size and then connect to the BATTERY side
of the master switch. Now when you turn off the master switch the
clock-radio will not lose their time-programming. I use a master
switch that has a removeable "key" so that it is also an anti-theft
device. Now when I go to cruise nights and car shows I can leave the
doors open and even if someone should try to turn on lights or honk
the horn they can't kill my battery. (I also keep a battery pack in
the car but usually only need to use it to help someone else.) I have
found that when there are "added" switches there is usually no
documentation so a new owner doesn't know what they are for and in
general should remove it.

Reference to ebay #1824304739, for '81 Delorean VIN...4750, 483 miles.
You may want to re-read the infomation that was provided at the bottom
of the ebay auction (attaching relavent 'snipped' portions here).
Noah's response was right on and happens to agree with the information
at the bottom of the ebay auction.
The big red flags mentioned include previously gelled fuel in system,
needs work before it is road worthy and will need to be trailered.
This is the seller stating and recommending these things. He also
offers the buyer to fully inspect before finalizing the deal.
This looks like a very nice "survivor" Delorean, but do not drive it
in its current condition. Heed the advice of the seller and others.

This could be a potential Concours car, depending upon how the vehicle
was stored. If not intended for Concours, it is still an excellent
example of a low mileage, original condition, mid production 81 model.
Trailer this 'diamond in the rough' home - do not drive it.
If you have the time and money to complete all necessary repairs prior
to the Memphis Show, I'm sure others would agree we would love to see
the car there. Even if you do not finish the repairs in time, you can
consider trailering it there and have the experts check it out.
Good luck with your inspection and purchase of VIN...4750.

you're on the money with everything but one and you missed one. Dont
buy a DeLorean expecting it to be an investment. Its not that kind of
car. you will most likely always get your money back out of the car,
but not make any. and remember the $20k rule. No matter what
condition you buy a D in, expect to have a total investment of $20k
into it before you are done.
But DO GET ONE! ive never regretted mine for a second.

I must disagree. I installed the Phillips "black"
headlights on my car a number of years ago. They were
exact replacements.
When the "superbright" halogens came out, I replaced
the "black" headlights with them. I was not totally
satisfied with the looks in any event. The "black"
appearance varied significantly depending upon the
angle from which you were viewing.

When I moved from Charlotte to New Orleans, I rented a Penske truck. It
was one of those Chevy box-vans which seemed to have a standard trailer
hitch on the back. (This was before Janine got wrecked and I got Laggy.)
I rented the "tow dolly" (they called it that; I called it a car carrier
as no wheels touched the ground and it was stored vertically) which had
the standard "put this on top of the hitch, now clamp that thing"
fitting. Also some chains, presumably in case the thing really had a
disaster with the hitch. The old Mopar fit on it so I'm relatively sure
a De would.
If you have time, simply go to your local Penske/U-Haul/Budget/whatever
and ask to see a truck with a hitch. They should be happy to take you
around to have a look. It also might be handy to bring the dimensions of
your car (including wheel base) with you.

I know we are on a "Fram sucks" thread but, has anyone seen the new
"SURE DRAIN" product from FRAM? It's a replacement for the oil drain
plug that quick connects to a drain hose. You don't have to remove the
plug, just attach the connector twist it and the oil drains out. There
are different sizes for the specific oil drain opening (not sure what
size ours is!) Has anyone tried this new product, if so does it work
well?
I use aluminum foil to cover the frame when draining my oil, it's a easy
masking to use but if this product really works it would make oil
changes much easier.

Out of curiousity, do alot of people have problems with their
courtesy lights draining their batteries? When I do work on my
car, I always open up both doors so I can hear the radio better.
Even with all 8 bulbs burning for a couple of hours, and a radio/
CD changer running, my car always starts right up. Granted
though, my car is driven daily, and I have a 750 amp battery
installed.
Just wondering because I do see the topic of door light switches
appear semi-frequently.
