That sounds like mine. MIne is a very simple stereo with a digital
display,
five presets, and a tape deck with a FF/EJECT button. It's nothing like
what
I see in this picture.

Is this what it should have in it??

This is true. And while I'm sure this will be the equivalent of
smacking a hornets nest with a stick, but there is one litte snag to
all this; The DeLorean is NOT a street rod, it was not intended to be
one, nor should it become one. I'm not saying this a a prude, I think
that proper modifications for the DeLorean have the ability to make
the car far more enjoyable/safer/what have you. But I am saying this
as someone who has already taken something like this into
consideration. A bigger engine for more power? As an owner, I can
more than understand that, and I even agree. But there does come a
point where there is overkill. Especially in the DeLorean. For
braking purposes, I carry weights up front. Slaming the brakes in a
DeLorean while going 45+ mph is no fun. You will end up spinning the
steeringwheel just to couter the inertia of the engine behind you to
keep the rear end from swinging up front. The same if you start
taking corners too fast. Don't get me wrong, I love the true rear-
engine design of the DeLorean. And I love the handling, but over 200
hp, I would begin to worry about personal safety. Just as fast as you
can speed up, you need to have to ability not just to slow down, but
to stop. Even true street rods that you mention will have
consideration for safety features like a roll cage. Obviously someone
who would attempt this type of a conversion would have the driving
skills to handle all the power. But the biggest question of all
remains: When would you be able to drive something like this? I've
seen alot of street rods at shows, and at the track. But to me
something you build just to look at, and maybe take to the track when
you get the chance is, well, dumb. To me, an unused car, is a useless
car. And my DeLorean is a daily driver.

If a street rod, or something to that effect is something you really
want to build, a Bricklin is a more suited car than a DeLorean is.
You can purchase a B for what you need for around $4K or so. And it
has the front mouted engine, and a bigger, more powerful engine(s) at
that.

Just my .02¢

cost 50, 80 , or over $100K to build, yet most of the actual
unrestored vehicles that are purchased to start these project rarely
cost over $10K. I don't own a $50K+ street rod, but I do enjoy
looking at them so I'm glad street rodders don't apply your logic.

To be perfectly honest, I wasn't too sure where to put this. But
since there are Bricklin owners on the list as well, I though this
may be of interest.

The owner is selling the car, but what caught my eye is the beautiful
headlight conversion. It gives the car a whole new look! This my even
spark a little creativity for Delorean owners as well.

Mike:
Doth thou speak with thy tongue in cheek? Push button tranny shifter like
the ones Chrysler had in the early 60's and Packard transmissions for a
Delorean? Are you smelling funny stuff in that fluid you use to polish
your car? Slap stick linkage, Hurst, Volvo, Northstar, Rover, ---I can
understand these--but not Packard! It died. Let it rest! Plus the fact,
alot of the new owners have no idea what a Packard.was !

Nope - it's a manual. The rest is correct. Interestingly, Joe Murray swore
blind the two Amex cars had saddle interiors - his wife made the seats!
They
were both convinced the original pair had tan interiors, but hey, we've
all
seen the pictures"

I may be wrong on this (because of the age of our Deloreans) would
not the "Feds" bust them for Emissions tampering/modifying from
stock,Remember back in the 70's there was a Company called Motion
Performance on Long Island NY
that used to get stock HiPo Camaro,Vettes and Vegas, and Turn them
into 11 second Street cars, after a while the Federal Government(EPA)
caught up with them and fined them something in the neighborhood of
$25,000 per car,(in 1970's dollars) and they made at least a few
hundred, and were Shut down/ told NEVER to make/modify such cars
again, the company that is putting the Nortstar engine in the
Deloreans is basically doing what Motion performance was doing in the
Seventies.Technically NO BUSINESS/or individual may modify a EPA
certified vehicle from factory EPA certified Specifications,THAT also
INCLUDES modifying a ORIGINAL factory engine
(Turbo's,cams,pistons,heads ect),EPA,most likely will not bust a
individual, unless, they go into business modifying cars, that would be
taken care of at the local level(DMV) Correct me if I am wrong.

Point taken Robert. I agree that there's no substitute for proper
planning
and safety. I just needed to make the point that investing more into a
project car than the original vehicle is worth is in many cases the norm
and
that's just the way the sport is.

Since I'm in the Pizza business (pizza maker) and have to deliver to
customers in my car every so often, I think I'll try this! Definitely
would
make sure the pizza is still hot. Even though I hate all the stupid BTTF
jokes I get with the car, there was one that was kinda funny because I
deliver in it. Here goes..."If you don't get your pizza in 30 minutes or
less, we'll go back in time just for you!"

Subject: My Clutch

I've just uploaded a picture of my slave cylinder/clutch fork
connection to the files section. I would appreciate it if some of
the more technical folks take a look at it and tell me what they
think. In the picture you can see the push-rod from the slave
cylinder fully extended and the outer seal torn off. You can also see
the broken link between it and the clutch fork. I tried pushing the
rod back into the slave cylinder but couldn't. I guess my main
question is what direction is the top of the clutch fork normally
supposed to rest at? Twords the engine, or the front of the car?
Because I can run though every gear with the engine running like the
clutch pedal was fully depressed. And the top of the fork appears to
be twords the engine.

Here is the picture...

I'm also no expert, but I believe it goes by the age of the car itself
(not
the motor), so you can put newer engines (Northstar) into older cars
(Delorean) without EPA problems. On the other hand, you can't take a
1960's
Ford 429ci engine and drop it into your 2001 Dodge Neon.
