Mike,
Connect a test wire between the ground post of the fuel pump and ground;
both fenders are grounded. If the pump works the problem has to be in the
inertia switch circuit.

Subject: Cassette Mortality Poll Analysis
The result of the poll was to tell me that it was (almost) not worth
conducting. Apparently, very few people have ever had a cassette tape
munched by their DeLorean. I am the only person who reported
experiencing the problem.
While these polls are not scientific, it is usually a good assumption
that the people most likely to respond are the ones who have had the
most difficulty. Because of this, I conclude that the probability of a
tape being destroyed during the tour is very low.
In case you are interested in my story, here are the details:
Last year, on the way to Saint Louis, our Craig cassette player chewed
up a book on tape. This has only happened once in seven years. Patti
and I continued to operate the cassette player for the rest of the trip,
including the long drive back to Cleveland, and experienced no further
difficulties.
Perhaps it was a fluke, or maybe a bad tape.

Subject: Puerto Rico news UNRELATED to DeLorean
Today, the protesters at the Puerto Rican military base are making
headlines everywhere, including the Internet.
Before anyone asks or comments, this is definitely NOT the same military
base that was once considered for the DeLorean factory. I checked, and
DMC considered going to an Air Force Base on the west end of Puerto
Rico, near Aguadilla. Today's headlines are at a Naval Base on the east
end of the smaller island of Vieques. Don't bother to post on the DML
about it.

Robert,
As I am hopefully-soon-to-be-living-the-dream, could you please
specify exacly which access panels, their locations, and what to look
for? I plan on seeing a few D's soon, and would like to perform
these types of inspections myself. I may or may not be able to get a
car on a lift, so any assistance on frame inspection without the aid
of an expert would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming the British Gov't destroyed the original dies used to
stamp the body panels, why can't some enterprising person take an
existing LF fender (for example), make a new die from that, and get a
few hundred fenders produced? Are the starup costs just too great?
Are there legal issues with copying the design? Obviously, there is
enough demand. Has this been tried before?

I was driving down the road the other day and to my amazement I saw a DeLorean. I live in a tiny town (Sanford, NC) and was thrilled to finally see one on the road (especially in my hick town). It was sighted on Gulf street, turning right on Sunset (I think). If this was you, I would be thrilled to talk with you.
PS-I would like to tell a man from South Carolina thanks; I saw him at a car show in charlotte, NC @ Charlotte Motor Speedway, and talked with him for quite a while about his DeLorean. This was my first time to actually get in a DeLorean. It made my day!! (I was the tall red-head) THANKS AGAIN!!

I need to take my Delorean on a journey via my new flat bed. I don't
want to run the delorean under it's own power because the reason I'm
moving it is because of the transmission. So I will be using a wench
to pull it up onto the trailer. Heres my question: where do I hook
the chains on the Delorean to pull it up? The only thing i see to
hook it on is the sway bar, and wouldn't that pull it off? So, if
someone could tell me that would be great. I'm leaving Saturday

free T-shirts. The registration so far for the Friday night at the Crawford
exceeds the number we had last time at Montgomery INN (Gregory Center)
Still a few behind for Saturday but way ahead of last years registrations.

If I get another big rush of registrations I just may have another surprise

Last time we had 27 States represented.
Just to let you all know John Z DeLorean will host a question and answer
session for at the Crawford Museum on Friday night. He will be at the show
Saturday and pose with us all at 5:00 for pictures. He will also be at the
Saturday dinner but there is no specific plans made for that evening yet.
For Friday everyone needs to be in front of the cars at 4:50PM to get the
pictures taken. After that I need a lot of voluneteers to move 22 tables
and 220 chairs from outside on the lawn to inside for our dinner. I have 25
minutes to do this and as one person I don't think I am that fast. With
enough people it should be done in 15 minutes.
Change in schedule dinner was at 6:00
The dinner will now begin at 6:30 (food served around 7)and go till 10:30
I needed the extra time sorry.
Also due to John DeLorean coming I had to make other arrangements for Friday
so we will be able to get into the museum at 6:00 on Friday which should make
it a lot easier for those of you on the Ralley. And easier on me too
you don't want me to drop like I felt like doing last time LOL

It's mostly the cost of the dies then the cost of stamping. With as few as
200
units the cost would be close to if not more that the current price.
Working stainless is
not as easy as you might think, it is different than regular steel. You may
not that there
are no complex curves in any of the Delorean stainless panels. They are for
the most part
developed surfaces, which is no accident. Consider for a moment that when
the car was in production the part cost several hundred dollars with 8,000
units stamped out.
Now there is another solution - Hand fabrication
My understanding that there is a place in Germany doing just that, I don't
know the price how ever. Maybe some other list member can add to this
information.

Hey List,
I just spent the last 4 and a half hours (5:00 pm EST - 9:30 pm EST)
separating the body of my DeLorean from the frame. I used about 20 cinder
blocks, 2 4x4's that were 8 feet long, 4 jack stands and a hydraulic jack and
a LOT of patience. I took pictures of the whole thing so when I get them
developed I will be sure to get them up on either a web page or the files
folder in eGroups. After I had finished doing it all and I saw what I had
done, I just couldn't believe the whole process worked. I mean for the past
4 months, I had an idea of how to do the separation, but I never thought it
would work as perfectly as it did. I was especially afraid that the
windshield glass or the back glass would crack when I was lifting each side,
but not even a small crack. The hardest part of doing this was moving those
darn cinder blocks ALL over the place. Now that I sent this post out I think
I am gonna collapse now. Gotta think about the next part of my restoration.

A couple of problems. Take a look at the repro steel fenders commonly
passed off by body shops for conventional cars. They are made in the
manner you describe (in China), and fit so poorly that the shops have
to rework them for a proper fit. Try reworking a bad stainless
stamping - without bondo. Stamping stainless is an even bigger
nightmare than normal steel since it has a much higher spring-back
factor.
I'm not sure that I understand where the approprate level of "demand"
would come from. That implies that several hundred people would be
wrecking the front end of their cars, and soon enough that anyone
making such fenders would recoup the investment. "Enterprising" means
that the person would expect to make money in a short period of time.
With the relatively limited number of cars driven often enough to be
exposed to accidents, there are plenty of spare parts in the form of
parts cars. As time marches on, the supply of good panels from
otherwise worn-out cars will tend to increase. The stainless is
probably the MOST re-useable part of a "parts car". I've been
watching this for several years now, and have often seen front
fenders, even the scarce "left" one, for sale for much less than the
mythical $5000 price. I don't notice a lot of people posting to the
list looking for sheet metal parts.
Maybe James would chime in here (maybe not due to competitive
reasons) but I'd be curious about your view as to the yearly demand
for replacement DMC body panels. I'd be that its less, way less, then
100 panels of all 8 SS pieces used on the car, not just front
fenders.

as well as anything you are looking for to finish that project car.
