Hello,
Does anyone have any news on this besides the time pieces, and that
they have prototypes? Does anyone know of an expected shipping date?
Does DeLorean still have the finances that he claimed to have a couple
of years ago? Why was his site www.deloreanmotorcompany.com sold to
DeLorean One? So many question so little time.

You can accomplish the same thing by simply removing the honeycomb
from your existing converter. This is of course illegal, but not all
parts of the country have emissions testing... Since the muffler is
stainless steel, even a car that's been in road salt will separate
very easily.
FWIW: any HP gain seems to be negligible. The good news is: noise
level doesn't increase (I might have gutted the converters on one of
my Lincolns and the empty shells could have acted like resonating
chambers).

You might only need a linkage adjustment. Get out your Workshop Manual
and go to F:07:01. You should also make sure everything is lubricated
and moving freely. If this doesn't help you might have to replace the
roll pin inside the transmission. As long as you are working around
the transmission make sure you also check the fluid level As per
F:03:01. You really don't need anything exotic, #80-90 weight gear oil
is fine (A:05:01).

Subject: Re: door strut mount bending?!
It has been proven that a certain strut that was supplied by some
venders in the past caused the mounts to bend on some cars because it
was too long when the door closed. If the anchor for your strut is
bending it is not a good thing. Some of the venders sell a
reenforcement bracket that you can install. Make sure then strut is
not overstressing the mounts when the door is closed, if so replace
it.

Subject: Re: DeLorean Stock Certificate for sale
I watched these stock certificate auctions on ebay very closely.....In all
about 7 stock certificates went over about a 4 week period. I believe the
ones without JZD's signature went for $200-400 dollars. A few that had his
signature went for over a thousand! I work in the Brokerage industry and
there are basically 2 types of stock certificates:
1) Custom certificates like Walt Disney that were designed for the company
with their logo, pictures, etc.
2) Standard office stationary type certificates where the company name is
just typed in with a typewriter.
It appears the one offered for sale is the cheaper of the two and does not
even have JZD's signature. I am not a judge of historic stock certificates
but I would be careful buying at that price... There are probably very few in
existence so who knows what the actual value is....I believe the "on-sale"
price is just marketing.
I do believe the cert is real and had some business purpose. But if you go to
the FAQ on the DMC newsite you will see Knut's picture of a real DMC
certificate....

Your car is made of plastic -- yes, this is bad (should you ultimately
rip the stud out of the pontoon altogether, I think Rob Grady has an
oversized repair kit but you'll have to remove the headliner to install).
Your door struts are probably too long or too strong (remember:
torsion bars open the doors, not the struts). DML had a long thread
this summer on the same topic. I don't want to restart that vendor vs
vendor discussion, but FWIW my Grady struts are excellent. Of course
they wouldn't be worth a darn without my torsion bar adjustments
(thanks Dave!).
Buy a known suitable set of struts from an honest to goodness DeLorean
vendor. If your doors continue to sag, get an experienced adjuster to
tighten the torsion bars. Your ball studs (and the pontoon) will thank
you.

Oh dear Payne, is it time to trade the little silver car for a new
Subaru? If your wiring harness is stock, you should have *THREE* black
wires going to the idle speed motor, each with a different stripe. The
middle one (Black/Pink) is 12v in. Black/Green and Black/Red are your
polarized lines back to the onboard computer. The circuit is grounded
inside the computer, so there's no need for any other wires (to
overcome twitchy ground, etc).
If it helps, my car is currently idling off its bypass screws -- idle
speed lines are capped until I can bend some conduit to reach my
relocated motor. Since A/C season is over, reasonable RPM's are easily
set manually.

A linkage adjustment adjustment sounds about right. Specificly the crossgate
cable. Same problem here, except it was reversed, and couldn't get into 2nd.
Just as important, while you're down there, make sure that you also lube the
pivot bolt too.

Whilst at the NEC last year I rummaged throught every trim stands

This stuff was identical, I recovered my door trim (the bit at the

But can I remember the company I brought it from, I have trouble

I will have a search at the NEC next month if I make it up there, I

Hi Chris
I replaced my cat with Ed Uding's pipe this summer when I did my manifold
gaskets. The difference is very noticable (and I removed the cold air
intake valve too). My exhaust even pops and gurgles a little bit when hot
now showing how much more easily it is breathing (and that it probably
needs its mixture setting up again!).
It's not just the restrictin of the catalyst that causes loss of power -
the outlet port of the cat is surprisingly small too.
With the cat removed the engine has noticably more torque and the pick up
in 3rd at 50mph is a lot of fun. This car will never be great from a
standing start with the stock ratios, but midrange is definitely improved.
NB removing the cat would be illegal in many US states. Here in the UK the
car's too old to have required a cat when manufactured, so it can be
removed and still pass the MOT test.

Subject: RE: door strut mount bending?!
Check the archives on this one.. Sometime in July there was a discussion on the DML about this.
The door struts that DMCH sells have a longer body (and shorter rod) than the stock (and the ones the other vendors sell) which can possibly bend and even break the lower ball mount.
I noticed this again at the Fall Foliage tour last weekend. Cars with the DMCH struts had bent lower mounts, one was even broken and loose (VERY dangerous!) On that particular car, the screw on ball stud had somehow loosened up and was on it's "last thread" making the piston rod even longer. When we lifted the door up a bit to pop the strut off (to thread the stud back on) it fell apart!
Rick Gendreau did a good evaluation of the door struts. Contact him for the results.
Here was the message that DMCH (James) posted to the DML in response to this problem. Now that I re-read it, I laugh at the "we've sold more than 1500 of these struts, and
have had three or four instances where the additional length was a problem" because I have seen at least 6 with my own eyes. I laugh, but its not funny. This is a serious problem and could result in personal injury.

There were a number of other messages about the same time that are worth reading.

Hi Bill
I seem to remember a loooong time ago, someone else suggested this, but
it's not a great idea for several reasons:
1) You're busting an expensive stock item
2) making the exhaust flow more freely has a lot to do with the shape of
the pipe as well as the restrictions, and the cat "box" (s'cuse the pun) is
not exactly the right shape for a free flowing exhaust.
3) As I mentioned in my last post, the size of the outlet pipe on the cat
is quite strangled
I also forgot to metion that the bypass pipe from Ed is high quality and
personally I think $90 is more than reasonable.
Does anyone need a NOS cat with only 6000 miles on it? :-)))

they are negligent in doing this. When you pay money for something from a

Subject: Re: CV Boots & Delco Alternator replacement
Although I am sure you might be able to find something that may fit
locally you are probably better off getting a part that you know will
work from a Delorean vender. There is no way to "split" a boot and
have it work. The split boots sold in the corner auto store do not
function well, they are intended for the "backyard mechanic" who
doesn't know what he is doing anyway. Besides if the boot is torn it
is best to disassemble the joint, clean out the dirt and old grease
and relubricate. A while back I think someone posted the procedure but
it should be in the Workshop Manual. It isn't that hard to remove the
whole half-shaft and then put it on your bench (or the floor) and go
at it. Make sure you carefully check ALL of the boots and replace any
that are questionable. Don't skimp on this as a boot is ALOT cheaper
then a joint!
On the alternater if the pulleys are out of alignment ie, they are
not parallel and in the same plane the belt will wear exessivly. The
only cure is to try to get things lined up better either by eye or
with a piece of string or a straightedge. Another cause could be the
wrong pulley causing the belt to ride too high or too low on the
pulley. A vee belt is not meant to touch on the "bottom" only the
sides. If it is out of line the fan on the alternater could also be
chewing the belt up. This is one of the pitfalls when you go out and
get parts and try to make them fit, you now have to figure out what
went wrong and spend more time and money correcting a fix that you
already spent time and money on. If you bought from a "D" vender you
would have his years of experience and support if the part he sold you
didn't work. In this case you are on your own. Auto stores don't like
electrical returns.

I am getting ready to move to the Washington D.C. area. Can anyone
who lives or lived there recommend a good mechanic in that area?
Part of my research I am doing as to how feasible it would be to get
another DMC since I am not near Don out in Garden Grove any more.
Feel free to shoot me an email directly if you like.

Carson

Subject: Hello Everyone
Hello everyone, I am still reading the DML Archives but I wanted to
finally introduce myself and get in on the discussion. I have
already met some of you. My name is Brent Lundgren from York,
Pennsylvania and I am the owner of VIN #17006, a 1983 Canadian model
built in September 1982. It has an automatic transmission, two-tone
interior and an unusual stainless steel louver. I purchased the car
from Virginia Hodges of Baltimore on November 3, 2001. She took good
care of it and it shows. I am a member of the Delorean Owners
Association and Delorean Mid-Atlantic. Rob Grady inspected the car
at the March 2002 Delorean Mid-Atlantic Spring Social and made some
recommendations. I attended the Delorean Eastern Regional Car Show
in Memphis and I believe I was parked next to James Espey in the
second row on show day (he had the banner on the windshield). I took
home the second place trophy for cars with 50-75K mikes. Due to a
mix-up at the award ceremony, I took home the first place trophy and
had to trade with Bruce Benson who was the real first place winner.
I was at the Delorean Mid-Atlantic Fall Foliage Tour this weekend in
NJ and had a great time even though we got lost and had to follow a
Bricklin part of the way.
While I'm here, I have a question:
Does anyone have any experience with the portable CD players that
have the cassette adapter? My original ASI radio still works but
I'd
like to be able to play CDs without replacing the original radio.
Comments?

I have had this pip on my car for more than a year now and am quite
happy with the results. Can't say if it really is 10hp, as I haven't
had any dyno testing done on my car, but the car DOES respond better.
On a side-note: I also removed the hot/cold air valve in the intake
to allow better breating on that end too AND I had a tuneup done
with the swap of the pipe.
The car sounds better (a bit throatier), and feels better, so I'm
happy. I know of several other people who have these on and I have
yet to hear anyone complain...
I still feel it was $90,- well spent, if this is legal in your state
(in The Netherlands cars before a certain date don't require a cat)
I'd say go for it!
Good luck,
JAN van de Wouw
