Cautionary note on the Yahoo Photos section - in deference to us all
with slow connections, and the fact that there is a limit to the file
space, PLEASE reduce the resolution of the photos. Properly sized
they should come out to about 20k per shot or less. Thanks.
Since people always ask, you access the Photos file by logging into
Yahoo Groups. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnews/
Also - please use the folder called "Memphis 02".

Subject: performance numbers
There is a lot of talk about the stock performance of a "D" these days. What I want to know is the numbers (quarter mile, 0-60) for the "D"s out there with performance upgrades! I have seen so many pics of turbo charged cars, but no numbers. What about the Stage I performance package that DMC Houston offers? 198 horsepower is the boasted number for horsepower, but I know this is measured on the enginge only. Has anyone Dyno'ed any of these monsters yet?
Don't get me wrong. I love this car for it's style, doors, SS, and history. I just see all kinds of people with upgrades and engine swaps and no numbers. Does the hard work and savings depletion pay off on the road, or was it just fun to do the project? Hope to hear from ya'll soon!

After driving solo over 1200 miles back to Canada from Memphis, I had time
to reflect on the experience of living the dream, driving the dream, and
sharing the dream with so many other unique people.
I want to add my name to the growing list who must thank Ken for the well
organized, and extremely successful DeLorean meet. Ken and his loving,
enthusiastic family are to be congratulated. Had a super time!!!!
Thanks also to DMC Joe who fixed a few minor things for me and Don Steger
for some tips on fixing my exhaust manifold leak. Nice people!
Contrary to the complaints and problems that take up alot space on this
list, my car ran perfectly both ways with no problems during the 2500
miles.
(other than the small manifold leak) The seats are more comfortable than my
Cadillac STS. Gas mileage was good - around 23 MPG - @ 80+ MPH (
+-130kph).
Met some really good people, shared many stories, put faces to names, drank
too much Southern Comfort.
In 2 years - hello again - in Valley Forge, Tenn.
Have only 7 souvenir glasses left over. Make me an offer!

Another fix would be to remove the heat stove and the Shutter-Air
Inlet (goes inbetween the air filter and the throtle body). Most
people have it off (including me) and I got a straight plastic hose
to go from the air cleaner to the throttle body from PJ Grady. It
will also give you an unrestricted air flow. The valve is there to
help the engine during warm up to restrict the amount of air going
into it. As it warms up the heat from the manifold/heat stove opens
the valve and allows more air in.

If anyone would like to send more (or better) digital/digitized photos

work out a way for you to get them to me and up on the site. (I never

Hey Dave,
Maybe your trying to find the leak the wrong way. Why not try to find it
from the inside out? Try using the hose on any part of the inside of the car
you think the leak might be and then take a look outside the car to see if
you can see water coming out. That might help! :) J/K. I just found out I
have a leak on my windshield also. As we were driving into Memphis on
thursday, we hit a LOT of rain on the highway, and water just happened to run
in along the drivers side A pillar.

Well, My car ran...and runs....great! no major problems going to
Memphis and back...except maybe the lack of A/C. Many people saw me
fanning out my shirt and putting icebags on my body to cool me down
while I was in the car.
Anyway, there were a couple of things that popped up when i was
driving the distance that I'd like to fix.
1. my clutch pedal squeaks. Not very often, but occasionally it
squeaks. Usually after I've been driving for a while.
2. after my car warms up it grinds when shifting into 5th. This
never happens when the car is cold.
3. One the way there and back it rained a couple of times. I noticed
that while it was raining, my car would hesitate a bit when
accelerating. It only rained while I was on the highway, and
everytime it would cause my car to hesitate. It was like the jerking
a car gets when you powerwash an engine. Once it stopped
raining...the problem went away. I haven't checked anything out on
my D yet. I thought I would post here first to see what you guys
think.
My wife (Cici) and I had a great time in Memphis. She really had a
fun time singing to you all. this was the first time she has been to
a car show. She said she has a new found appreciation for the car.
It was great to see everyone again, and to meet new people!!
My favorite car is the twin engine Delorean. it was interesting to
talk with the creator of that. If you are on the list, please email
me. i would like to keep in touch.
Thanks!!!!

Subject: The car won't start anymore!
I just got the car back from a guy who had it for 2 months and ended up
working on it exactly 1 hour. From what I can tell he took out the
tamper-proof screw to adjust the CO mixture (using a dwell meter) and worked
on the fuel regulator.
I drove it home and it was fine. The next day, it started up again and was
fine. Only when I got my destination did the trouble begin.
When I went to start the car I got nothing. The engine turned over and over
with no result. I popped a spark plug wire to check if I was getting spark
and it wasn't. So, I replaced the ignition coil.
Now the car turns over and over and you can hear it almost starting but it
stops just short. It's so very close. I can feel the car wants to start but
something is preventing it. What could that thing be?

Hello.
My name is Rick Gendreau (the guy with the twin engine Delorean).
This is my first posting on the DMC news list, as I've just joined
today. The Memphis car show, which was my first car show of any
kind, was one of the most fun weekends I can remember having. I very
much enjoyed meeting you all, and seeing all of your cars, both the
skillfully modified ones, and the ones diligently maintained as stock
to preserve the Delorean heritage. A special thanks to Ken for
talking me out of bailing. I would have really missed out. I'm also
thankful to Kathryn Delorean for signing my hood.
Please feel free to email me, I'll check it once or twice a day.

Mine leaked through the cloth attached to the carpet and upholstery on the LH

migrate behind the inner weather strip at the front leading edge of the door,
and accumulate or drip onto the knee bolster and LH inner front door sill

To Ian and list,
Pictures of my modified Sunstar model will be on my web-site throughout the
next few weeks as my updates trickle in. Expect big things from the updates
to my site, and my sister site, Rich's Projects. As usual, there will be a
lot of video interviews and high quality pictures. I was able to ride in
the Hovercraft DeLorean, and there will be video of that as well.
In regards to my sunstar model, I modified it to reflect my car. I made
black headlight covers, carpeted the floor and parcel shelf, and painted the
seats and coin holder black. Unfortunately, the competition at the show was
lacking, the only other entry was a car that didn't seem to have any
modifications. I am sure there are others out there that have done a lot
more to there models, but none seemed to be at the show. Next time I plan
to make a few wild ones. :)
Ken put on a hell of a show, and I think everyone had a lot of fun. Hope to
see everyone there in 2004!

Subject: Memphis AC problem
Ken,
I had a great time in Memphis. The Caravan down with 17 DeLoreans was
pretty amazing. Martys car was my favorite. It was quite modified yet still
looked like it could have come out of the factory that way. Nice work!
Everything was fine until my AC drain line got plugged up(again). When
I came home I removed both seats and carpet sections before it started to get
musty in there. I can unclog the drain with compressed air but then it
clogs back up within and hour. I talked to Don Steger in Memphis and he said
that it can be fixed without removing the entire box. He said to buy a 2
inch hole cutter and cut out a hole in the bottom of the evap box so you can
reach in and remove all of the junk. I think I might do this tomorrow but
before I start I need to know where I should drill this 2" hole... I don't
want to cut anything inside the box. Has anyone on the list performed this
operation? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Looking for input on an elusive idle speed. When started cold it
sits between 900-1000 rpm. After about a two minute warm up the rpms
step up to 1500 and the idle gets a bit rough (a little sputtering).
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor have been recently changed along with vacuum
lines and misc. other odds n ends. This problem has only come up
within the last couple weeks and before that everything was fine.
Have checked all vacuum hose connections for leaks and have found
none. Micro switch is engaging and does kick down the rpm but only
to the 1500 range. Throttle plates are closed and linkage is not
hanging up. What puzzles me is the change as the engine warms up.
Any thoughts
Car drives fine and accelerates through all gears without any probs.

P.S. Great show Ken.

I ditched using ofoto.com since it now *requires* people to login to view
photos.. so I uploaded them to my own site. You can view them here:
http://www.eskin.net/delorean/memphis1.html
This is just an index page with links to all the photos, which will each
open up in a new browser window. They are all raw/large (500k-1MB), so I
suggest using a high-speed connection to view them.
Also, don't miss the two panoramic shots towards the bottom of the page.
