My car has cruise control by Dakota Digital. Though Ben, the previous owner installed it, it doesn't look too horrible to do. The controls for it are on the console, just forward of the shifter (where the clock is on some cars). On my car there is some sort of control module on the left hand side of the engine, mounted on the fiberglass wall. You have to route a cable out of this box to the throttle spool... which looks like it took some home engineering on my car. If you are interested in seeing just what it looks like, I can take pictures and upload it to the egroups site when I go home this weekend.

I find this very interesting. Every Delorean angle drive I've rebuilt,
and it's been quite a few, has had metal gears in it. I've never taken a
Delorean angle drive apart that has had plastic gears inside.

Subject: restoring air filter housing
hello all,
as part of my engine beautifcation project, i'd like to get my air filter
housing cleaned up a bit. i have already removed all the stickers but the
housing is faded and scratched in places. the scratches aren't deep and i'm
sure they would be hidden if the whole housing was colored again.
anyone have any recommendations? i'm thinking about getting the housing dyed
black, but maybe spraypaint is a better deal? if i spray paint it, are the
decals going to stay on well?
any help is much appreciated!

Subject: car alarm door trigger
I have hooked up my car alarm-- and it is working. But here's my dilemma: I
needed a single wire hookup for the door trigger. (I can go negative or
positive trigger)
I could only find a one-wire hookup if either/both of the courtesy lights
was set to door. Turning off the light/door feature turns off the trigger
and the alarm thinks the door is/remains open.
The left hand switch Purp/Blue wire and the RH Purp/Pink wire eventually
come together through the Purp/white wire that feeds the delay. That's the
one I hooked in to; it shows ground when either door is up, and positive
when both doors are down AND at least one courtesy light is in the door
position.
Q: Does anyone have a better way to do this?
Other things for future DIY'ers to note: get a negative trigger car-lock
feature. It's breeze to hook up. The brown/pink and brown/slate wires going
into the door lock module hook up to the lock wires from the alarm. The
Brown+slate is the lock, and the brown+pink is the unlock.
Next Question. I'm going to do the door-latch actuators from Darryl. Do I
have to run wires for his actuators? or can I use the LGW that the Zilla's
schematic shows running to the door for the proposed mirror heaters.

hey everyone, me again!
today i noticed a rattle in my car, so i got out to investigate. ?i believe
the round disc that goes behind the seat belt mount on the passenger rear
wall is the culprit. ?it is quite loose and it spins around and has a lot of
play in it. ?the driver's side is much tighter. ?anyone know how to fix this?
?
one problem might be that i have replaced my rear headliner but was unable to
get the passenger side ceiling screw through the headliner once i had it
installed. ?i should have drilled it out first. ?too late! ?as a result the
black part of the wall on the side isn't mounted to the roof, so it's a
little loose. ?this might have something to do with it?

catch post (sorry for the incorrect part names) and has worn a groove
into it. It also requires quite a bit of OOMPH to get it to shut.
The tops of the door are level with the t-bar and things seem to
align about right for the most part, otherwise.
There is some guy selling PJ Grady's "door adjustment procedure" on
eBay right now. This is really the torsion bar adjustment
procedure...
PJ Grady was kind enough to send that to me for free when I bought
door pistons...

From what Rob told me at the NCDMC meet, there is an "upgrade" that you
can do to the striker pins so that you have a greater range of adjustment.
I believe he said that the later cars were built with this upgrade done
already.
The gist of it is that you cut away the fiberglass so that the striker
pins can be screwed in further. You then use shims to set the depth just
right. You also end up with a bit more vertical and horizontal room to
play with also (I believe). The cutaways are then covered with rubber
boots.
Rob told me that he has made up some sort of pattern to trace onto wood
and then cut out. These wooden templates then help you find exactly how
much of the fiberglass should be cut out.
The tortion bar adjustment is a different thing. This should be done if
AFTER replacing your struts your doors are still sagging. That's what the
eBay item is referring to also.
I also have a problem with my passenger door hitting the striker pins
quite hard when closing the door. I believe the striker pin update would
take care of this, but I still haven't heard back from Rob on obtaining
the pattern and any possible instructions that he has for the procedure.

Undo it... wiggle it about, watch how the door hits it, and adjust it into place.... the
striker pins are very simple - there is no real procedure. NB mine are in the correct
place but still hit the door guide on the END of the pin. The original installation of
the door guide suggests grinding down the "channel" in the guide if the pin hits it. This
was never done and has also worn a groove in mine.

DMC Houston (WWW.delorean.com) has also got a concours car rating
checklist if the car you're looking at is close to flawless. It'll
tell you if that car originally came with a two-key entry system,
power antenna and such stuff as that.
Good luck, BE CAREFUL, and bring your VISA card... I bought $1,000
worth of parts the first week I had my car, and could have tripled
that to get to perfection...

If you buy Darryl's system, it'll come with instructions telling you how to wire them up.
It's very easy. Darryl was kind enough to supply me with a set of instructions even
though I haven't bought a kit (experimenting with my own systems as you all know!). IMO
this is a better solution than using the door heater wires.

SCRAPPAGE IS DEFEATED ON U.S. SENATE FLOOR
As a result of SEMA and SEMA-member companies' hard work to oppose the
old-car scrappage provision in the Energy Policy Act of 2002 (Section 822 of
S. 517), the provision has been defeated. Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell's
(R-CO) amendment to eliminate scrappage from the legislation passed by
unanimous consent. Even the principal sponsor of the scrappage provision,
Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), was not willing to oppose the Campbell
amendment!
This is fantastic work which would not have been possible without the
enthusiastic and valuable support of Sen. Campbell and the thousands of
phone calls, faxes, e-mails and letters to U.S. senators that SEMA-member
businesses and SEMA Action Network vehicle clubs and individual enthusiasts
contributed. Hobbyist efforts were cited by Senator Campbell and Senator Sam
Brownback (R-KS) as a compelling force in defeating this scrappage

I just got my D back from Circuit City. I had them install and New radio
(Yes I Kept the old one for Car Originatlity) and replace the Door Actuators
while installing a Viper 300 security system. They did a GREAT job I have
NO problems with the New Actuators the alarm system locks the doors when
the car is started and unlocks them when you turn off the ignition. And of
course the doors locks when the system is armed. The Alarm installed with
new Actuators cost about $300 with a Life Time Installation Guarantee.....

Subject: machined shift knobs!
Just wanted to let you all know that I will have my shift knobs all made and
for sale in under two weeks. I will have 3 different designs. A stainless
machined sphere similar to the original and two racier designs made from
aluminum that have a similar shape to those used in champ and indy cars, but
more classy. I already have one of the aluminum ones in my car as a test
prototype. I love it, even more than my Momo race air leather! It fits
perfectly in the palm of your hand and since it is directly threaded to the
shift lever gives you a better feel for the transmision than what you get
with a momo which is attached with set screws. Anyway, I will let you know
when they are on my site and for sale. Also, they will be nicely priced in
the $25-$50 range, you can't beat that for for this nice of a machined shift
knob.

Subject: Cost to maintain these cars
There is often concern about the cost to maintain these cars. the
uninitiated are often surprised by the cost for all the little stuff
that they can't see right away.
I created a poll on the http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnews site
for the purpose of getting/giving an understanding of what these cars
really take to get and keep them right. Please check it out and
share the wealth of information...
With that in mind, who has a ignition coil box cover they'd part
with? Any condition considered...
