It's funny, I've never had that happen. I get the occasional looker but all
I can figure is that here in California everyone is so used to seeing 'rare'
cars that they hardly give them a second look. Even at the car show this
last weekend where we had 4 cars on display. We didn't get any more of a
crowd than the Jags or MG's.
I wish people would stare at me more, at least when I'm driving. People
don't bother to look over.. and down from their monster-truck SUV's and they
are always pulling into my lane right on top of me.
I feel a Rodney Dangerfield joke coming on.. 8^)

I've just received information regarding an all British car meet on June
10th in Mankato, Mn.
It's an annual event sponsered by a fellow with a 10,000 sq ft restoration
facility devoted exclusivly to the restoration of British cars. Rather than

I would just like to comment on the significance of signing with the VIN. I
suppose it was just one of those things that happened when the list was first
generated by James Espey. I joined the list in August of 1996 and at that
time people were signing with their VIN. So for those of you who were the
first 10 or so members, how did this come about? Personally, I like it when
someone writing on the list lets us know their VIN because it helps me to
identify people. This is especially important at shows (like the one coming
up soon in Cleveland) where we finally get to meet each other and put names
with faces for those who post on the DML. The VIN and for that matter e-mail
addresses are a couple of the ways we have to identify and connect with each
other. In addition, the history of the DeLorean is one of the many things
that is appealing to me about the car. I admire those that spend their time
and work hard to gather information and statistics on the DeLorean production
numbers and all of the cars that are known to still exist.

There is a distinct lack of DeLoreans (at least on the road everyday) here
in the Denver area. My car certainly gathers the crowd. Last weekend I was
driving back from a friends house and say a Lamborghini Countach outside of
a carwash, and pulled over to check it out. To my surprise, the owner and
his son spent a good half hour looking over my DeLorean and asking me
questions before I could check out his car. . . Not exactly the response I
expected.
We are going to try to get together in the near future and take some
pictures of the 2 cars together, should make for some good pictures.

I have been on the DML since about 1995 . . .wow, how time flies.
Personally adding the VIN number is a matter of pride. I was a list member
before I had my car, and after I got it, I wanted to let the whole world
know that I was a DELOREAN OWNER, and not just any DeLorean, but Aug. 81,
Gray interior, 5-speed, VIN SCEDT26T0BD003472.
It is the only car I have ever owned that I have memorized the entire VIN
number (sick isn't it??). I have also owned this car over 4 years, when I
typically get sick of any car I own after at leas a year and a half. . .

Well, using my handy-dandy multimeter, I get the following, and bear in
mind it's been about 12 years since high school physics: On the 2k ohms
scale, I get a steady proportional range from .001 through .030. A
little bit more and it jumps to 1 (open)
The taper is a hexagon approximately 3/4" tall by 1/4" thick, with a
small round spring loaded pin centered a shade less than 1/4" from the
top of the post.
I'm no electrician, but I do know it makes all the dash lights dim from
off to full on with no problems so far. If it's from 1976, that means
if it's a Jaguar part likely from 1977, so it's either from an XJS or an
XJ6/12. Since the XJS appears to use something similar to a rocker
switch, it may be from the XJ6. According to a Terry's Jaguar catalog,
the XJS uses a different switch from the XJ6/12. Terry's lists this as
as Jag part number 30886. Anybody have access to a Jag dealer locally
that could check it out?

My thanks to all who repled to my last cry for help. 4 groupies were right
on the money. Joe Palatinus, Mike, Josh Haldeman and Mike Substelny all had
the same or similar experience. What has happened over the course of years
is the locking linkage rods have loosened up and make the linkage rods not
strong enough to unlock the door. I removed the upper drivers inside door
panel and right over the inside armrest door handle release latch are the
linkage rods. I was able by hand to move the top linkage rod forward (toward
the dash) and relase the lock mechanism. This allowed the door to open
freely. Tomorrow I will WD 40 the rods and tighten the tension on the rods to
allow the outside keylock to function properly. Again my sincere thanks to
all who responded.

Well this one was a surprise
Steve L is bringing his hot rod D
It has a beautiful V8 that I have pictures of and plan to put on my web page
if I can find time
The car will go from 0-60 in 5.5 so its a bit faster than my standard D.
I found out about it with his registration so we really do have a collection
and for those of you that asked Rob does plan to bring his green one.
We are over 80 cars now with 2 weeks to go
100 is still possible.
Also there are a few more rooms with King size beds only just turned over to
me at the Holiday INN
There is also double vbeds available at the Hampton under the DeLorean Car
show name

Subject: Angle Drive
Well, I am having the joys of a stubborn Angle Drive hassle me lately. My
speedometer stopped working last week. I pulled the front wheel and the
lower cable off the angle drive. The bottom section of the lower Speedo
cable fell out. I saw where it had broken inside the cable. I ordered a new
lower cable, replaced it, checked the angle drive and other parts which all
seems to work well and put it all back together. I drove to a show this
Saturday and the speedometer worked fine for a while and then all of a sudden
it stopped working again. I pulled the wheel off today when I got home and
took the lower cable off again and the Speedo cup off the rotor. Everything
looks fine and turns and spins when the wheel is turned. I can't see any
problems. Anyone been down this road too? Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated I don't know what else to check everything looks fine and seems
to function properly. Could the angle drive be bad but appear to work
properly and turn properly? The insert looks square not rounded as some do
with wear. Thanks in advance for your help

Its the whole fascia thing, really.
They rarely seem to be in the right light to complement the car (too dark,
or too light against the SS). Even the light fascias look terrible on a dark
day when the D goes that grey-ey blue.
At least paining the car (silver, even) allows you to match the fascias.
I'd like to have my car eventually painted in see-through British Racing
Green, which is a nice colour but lets the great brush effect show through.
I don't know how hard it is to do, or how much it is, but it'll be worth it.
If I remember right there are a few panels lying around with DMC in houston
or texas now with see-through 'tinted' paint on them.
