Bill. The timing at idle is retarded compared to a DeLorean distributor which is advanced to clean up emissions (at a guess). Timing at idle has bugger all to do with performance as I'm sure you'll agree. It's what those itty bitty weights do when the engine increases in speed that do the job. I doubt very much that the B28E dizzy we use is more retarded than the DeLorean dizzy at any speed other than idle. BTW I call your engine R30 because the Renault 30 only ever had one engine and that engine was only ever fitted to the Renault 30.
