Lincoln did the same thing on my 460's: 1969 (11:1 compression) stickered 10 degrees 1977 (8.5:1 compression) stickered 13 degrees 1978 (8.5:1 compression) stickered 16 degrees 1979 460 dropped as engine option altogether I think idea was to maximize burn time inside cylinder without rendering engine totally undriveable. Throughout 1970's domestic manufacturers struggled to meet government mandates with older technology. Am no fan of 1980's & later little computer controlled engines, but are better than torturing their predecessors into something they were never meant to be.
