There are only a few of us online who have been this deep in an engine.  I
haven't.  My guess is that the instructions you have are for a car with
the
engine mounted in the front, so everything is reversed.  Mike Cohee has a
really nice Volvo manual (green cover).  You might try to get a look at
it.

Also try looking at Haynes Automotive Repair Manual for Volvo 740 & 760
1982
thru 1988.  This is book # 97040 (1550)  It is a common item at Pepboys.
