I hope I'm not too late with this answer.  I think that the corroded
screws
you are referring to are the ones sticking up through the fiberglass
underbody.  These rust when leaks in the roof wet the center console.  I
suggest soaking them with penetrating oil before removing the nuts.  If
these studs break or spin, you can't reach the back side to fix them
without
taking the body off the frame.

Some people are able to reach around the back side of the instrument panel
to remove/replace the mode switch.  My hands aren't that small.  I end up
first removing the center console and then loosening the bracket (the one
that holds all the controls & the radio).

As Jan said earlier, I don't know of any other screws/fasteners in the
area
that could be holding the bracket down.
