Thanks for all your advice guys, its certainly given me some pointers. I know the car did have some 'head work' about 6000 miles ago as the head gasket had gone (quite common on the 1725cc engine between 90000 and 100000 miles apparantly), but it doesnt look like hardened valve seats were fitted as part of the work (I've got nearly £5000 worth of receipts with the car which doesnt include the body resto and respray in 1996!). She's got twin Stromberg Carburettor's btw Nick. I'm using it for work today, but I'll swap her back with the Cavvy tonight. I need to get myself a timing light before I tackle it further :-) Mind you, I also need to find time to sort Flopsy's handbrake (or lack of) some time this week too in readiness for 'going out to play' on Sunday........
