Hi Guys, I was driving up the road today and all of a sudden noticed smoke coming out from my engine bay. As you can imagine I was not impressed and quickly pulled over to the hard shoulder to investigate. It turned out that the heat shield under the cat had became soaked (it was raining quite heavily and the roads were drenched) and had started to disintegrate and seemed to be burning oil off it or something. There does not appear to be any oil leaks (checked levels after car was sitting for five hours and everything seemed ok, also had no oil on garage floor) so not sure if it was just a build up over the years that when the shield broke down caused it to burn off. The car is running of a cylinder up till about 4000revs but im putting that down to not having a coil cover and the dampness (correct me if im wrong) cos I replaced all the HT leads and plugs and the coil. My main query is, do I need that heat shield and if I do, could I do without it if I installed the cat bypass pipe. Cheers. Paul Ps: She may RUN like a dog when its wet but she DRIVES like a dream when coming off roundabouts ? :-) . _____ From: doc-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:doc-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Martin Gutkowski - DMC Ltd Sent: 15 May 2006 23:08 To: doc-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [doc] NO REVERSE LIGHT That's slightly different. The DeLorean only needs foglights over here because it was built after July 1980 for example.
