hi some of the best ever deloreans have been discovered in barns, the secret is a continuas air flow across the chassis keeping it dry,the idea of most barns is for keeping hay etc dry.
if a delorean was to be kept in a normal garage for 20 years in the uk the chassis and engine components would be very rusty, the cause of this happens in winter,it doesnt even have to be raining.on a very cold day all the metal componants get very cold then say the next day raises by 2 degrees the air around the car warms but the chassis etc is stil cold,so all these componants act like a dehumidifire and get covered in the moister from the air.the best way to solv this is to put a fan in the garage as long as the air is moving across the car it will keep dry, then the car will never rust,or very slowly anyway

ok thanks - i was looking at it as a very long term project, namely to keep dad out of the way! - so i am thinking of 15+ yrs to do it, a little at a time! and gain an understanding of what its like to "build" one of these very special beasts!
how well do these survive in a dry (fairly clean) barn?
