Yes legally speaking, it should be a 'Pre-Booked' appointment and
must be in writing/on computer.
and yes you can drive it from the MOT test centre back home if it
fails, you can also legally drive it to a prebooked appointmend at a
local garage for the nessasary remidial work to be carried out
The Law States:
"A vehicle without an MOT test certificate may be driven to a test
station provided an MOT test appointment has been arranged or if it
is being driven to the garage to have work done after it has failed
the test."
