Our cruse though the Derbyshire countryside did no exactly go as
planned. After we had all met up at our first venue we set off for what
should have been a 30/ 40 mins trip through Matlock Bath for our "Pub
Lunch".
After sitting in solid traffic for over an hour and covering less than a
1/4 of the distance, we did an about turn at Cromford Mill (a world
heritage site where the world's first commercial weaving mill was built
and is now being restored, and well worth a visit.)
We re-arranged at another pub in Ambergate. As one member's radiator
was leaking we decided to have an emergency "Techy session" at my new
house site. The whole crew of 9 DeLorean's arrived and lined up on my
lawn. The volunteers promptly set about removing the radiator, as
luckily I had an "Ian Foster" spare one handy.
Once the spanners started flying it was also decided to remove the front
facia as this had not been off before and numerous rusted bolts had
proved difficult in the past.....this did not phase my trusty group and
the car was soon stripped down to reveal a very special and pleasant
historical surprise discovery!!!! (I will save details of this for
our next magazine)!!!!
Numerous emergency picnic foods were obtained as the work proceeded into
the evening. It was a very different day from one that was planned, but
gratifying in the extreme, to see everyone pitching in to get the car
fixed and driven home, rather than face the indignity of going via the
RAC. Its this sort of friendly helpfulness that makes the DOC different
from any other car club I can think of.
A very big thanks to all involved, (in no particular order):-
Richard Hanlon,
Nick Tomlinson
Mike Green
Robin Simpson
Phill Peters
Phil Wright
Mike Bosworth
John Chapelhow
Andrew Westerman
Paul Birks,
I will be email John Tien a set of photo's for the club website.
Best regards
Chris Parnham
