Hi Mat,
I've found the best results by the following method:
1. Take the wheel off
2. Take out centre cap and clean it by hand
3. Spray wheel with wheel cleaner on both sides; don't leave it on very long
4. Wash cleaner off with pressure washer
5. Dry thoroughly on both sides with paper towel
6. Refit wheel to car
