Just looking at the UTV site and up poped this news item
Looks like a bad week for any one in the automotive industry.
(If you don't know this is the firm that is now based in the 
Delorean Factory)

Fifty shop floor workers are going along with 20 other staff. 

Montupet, a French-owned company, makes aluminium wheel hubs and 
cylinder heads. 

It is based in south belfast where it employs over 860, 700 of those 
on the shop floor.

Today it has revealed that because of a drop in demamnd for its 
products, it is to cut the workforce by 70, the bulk of job losses 
among shop floor workers. 

It`s understood the firm recently let a number of temporary workers 
go.

Amicus, the union representing maany workers at the plant, said it 
was disaapopinted at the news. 

It pointed out Montupet was one of the last large car component 
manufacturers in Northern Ireland.

Two years ago, seat-belt firm TKECC closed down with the loss of over 
800 jobs.

Montupet is one of the jewels in the crown of manufacturing industry 
featuring in publicity material for Invest Northern Ireland. 

Any cutbacks at this firm would be viewed with great concern by the 
government.
