Hi Chris
There was a question on the DML recently which was something basic like
"can someone tell me which way round this wire goes". And what followed
was a series of mails telling the guy who posted that he was a pratt for
asking, but nobody actually told him the two-word answe! It was a basic
question, but I firmly subscribe to the philosophy of "a question is
only stupid if you have to ask it twice". I remember what I was like
when I started playing, and the number of phone calls asking these
silly, basic engine-related questions but with friendly, quick
strait-to-the-point answers, I learnt a lot in a short time.
I do however feel the need to take some people to task over expressing
"knowledge" that is wrong, or poor advice - that's just me, I'm like
that :-) The crucial thing to note is that other people even less
knowledgable may take this as gospel and damage their cars as a result.
If you follow the DML, you might have seen a recent exchange about turbo
dump valves (he he - just heard Dan W's ears prick up then!). Also look
out for a guy called Bill who posts as "content22207" because his posts
often result in fights - but as a person he's a really nice guy and
exchanges with him -never- degenerate into unpleasentness. In its own
way, that's good fun - like a really good discussion over a pint.
Well, that's my ramble over!
Martin
