It sounds like if you don't have access to a pit or ramp and appropriate
gearbox jack, it really IS easier to just lift the engine and box out.
It's designed to come out thet way and doing it like that means you can
have the whole thing done in a day. I've read time and again that the
trickiest part is getting the gearbox back onto the engine - and
certainly it's not easy even when you've got it on the floor in front of
you with the engine on a hoist.
I'm impressed you did all the seals yourself Richard!
