Graphics drivers and DirectX version would be the first choice.
Sound card drivers are terrible with windows 2k.
try the setting in the game not to use any sound and see if this is OK.
If the game permits, try using a standard OpenGL compatible driver.
You can make Windows XP (Xtra Pretty) look like windows 2000 by going
to control panel>display>appearance then setting to Windows Classic.
Windows XP Home is more compatible with the games but I preferred good old
Dos/Win95 (shows my age)
