RE: [doc] Shipping

You go careful with my sign Ian! Anyway it's only 10 foot!

Hi D-Shippers,

Anyone know of another Roll-on Roll-off shipping line, called "Wallinus" (or
something like that) ... as I recall their prices were much cheaper?

I need to bring back a trailer load of m'cycles and DeLorean spares (the
remainder of my spares-car), along with a certain 12' Shop Sign!

Cheers, IAN

There are also additional port handling charges when the car is brought
in.

Here's some of the prices I was quoted for moving my D from Tucson
Arizona a few weeks ago...

To take the car to East Cost Jacksonville - Ship to Southampton UK
- $1845.00 PLUS 80 quid UK port handling charge

To take the car to West Coast Long Beach, CA - Ship to Thamesport UK
- $1730.00 PLUS 280 quid UK port handling charge
The port handling charge is higher because the car goes via container
rather than roll-on-roll-off

Those prices are for a non runner - you can knock about $200 off if it's
drivable.

Transcar also charge 5% for using a credit card - but the bank charge
about 25 quid for a wire transfer, so six of one & half a dozen of the
other...

Not that it makes the slightest bit of difference, but according to the
shipping agent the 5% is not duty, but a lowered VAT rate. The car has
0% duty payable. This only applies if you get the vital BTI of course.

Here is a few need to know questions about buying a car from america and
shipping:

1. How do you know you will get the car in the pictures? Can you hire
people to go out and check it?

2. Does Transcar ship your car from anywhere in the country at no extra
charge? I think I seen that before, but could not find it on the
Transcar web site.

3. And what are the charges and tax etc (or any other fees) when the car
is brought back into the UK? I also seen before that there is no tax
because the car is coming back to the place of origin, is this true?

Thanks a lot!
