The gearbox will just sit happily once the engine is removed, (as Frenchy has been for the last two weeks), but being unsupported by the engine, it sits about 4" lower, with the bell housing resting on the chassis cross member. Technically I suppose it's putting a bit of extra twisting strain on the gearbox mounts, but nothing to worry about. (I have just been out and re-checked!) I could of course slipped in a piece of 3"x2" between the two had I thought about it. I normally stick a trolley jack under the gearbox during removal and re-fittings of the engine, to ensure good alignment. Chrispy > >My question is; is the gearbox supported by the engine?
