Window Regulator

Hi,

I've spent the last two evenings dismantling my drivers door (and skinning my 
hand in the process) to work out why my window stopped working. The 
regulator has broken on the outside slieve part. I've heard that this can be 
welded. Has anyone had any success with this 'cos I really dont feel like 
spending $275 on a new one?
