Idlespeed motor has absolutely no effect when throttle butterflies are at anything other than closed (that's what the microswitch does). Sounds unrelated, and most likely the control pressure regulator. So far I've seen 3 cars with this problem. NB it's NOT the same as on the Volvo, you have to get it rebuilt or a new one. That particular CPR was not used on any UK cars. It's also called teh Warm up regulator. It sets the resistance to movement of the metering flap during warm-up and if it puts too much resistance, you'll run lean and cough and splutter. I had a CPR go bad (was actually Rich's in my car) and it really did go from running fine to running badly to not running at all in the space of about a week.
