That was my first reaction, then I realised Super Car Sunday is in late July. This guy is in his final year, by that point he will be finished, graduated and job hunting. Maybe there's another show around that time that would like us all to turn up? But that would have to be somewhere vaguely close to filming location. Nice idea, it's just going to be a logistical nightmare! -----Original Message----- From: Chris Parnham [mailto:cp@xxxx] Sent: 12 November 2002 10:15 To: doc-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: [doc] Filiming the Delroean. Yes, Stephen, I am thinking along similar lines, it could perhaps be on the Saturday, prior to Super car Sunday. What do the rest of you think? Very interesting idea. One of my friends from school times, was studying at the London Institute, and now works for a very decent SoHo Film Production company. I remember talking about his end of year film projects. They are given very little funding, and anything special comes out of their own pockets. I saw a few projects, and it often seems to be style over content, but very good style all the same. The fact that this guy has chosen to utilise stock colour 16mm, indicates that he is of the non digital set, and will be very concerned about excellent exposure and lighting. Basically he seems like he'll be the type to bring out the best in the Deloreans looks. I'm sure he'll do some close shots of single Deloreans too, so those with pristine cars, get in there first. He seems very pro Delorean, so it can only improve the image of the car. The real question is whether we can get a minimum of 32 cars to one event, it's a tall order. The guy better provide plenty of "refreshments" and entertainment. I got the feeling from his email, that he doesn't think we already meet up on a fairly regular basis, hence he thinks there is novelty in us getting together. In these numbers, it would be quite rare, but I can't help but think that this should be done in conjunction with another event, to make the most of all the cars meeting up. Anyone else got some ideas? Stephen. P.S. Talking of Deloreans on film, I had a chap approach me in Bath the other month, that worked as a glamour model photographer in the 80's. He admitted that one of his favourite shoots, was with a very busty blonde lady, and a Delorean :) Lucky chap :) Stephen Strelczak Solutions Advisor Comtec NHS Comtec PLC Avon Street Bath BA1 1UN D.Telephone: 01225446122 M.Telephone: 07970008603 Facsimile: 01225448360 HP Platinum Procurve Networking Partner Gcat Supplier for Fujtisu-Siemens -----Original Message----- From: Chris Parnham [ mailto:cp@xxxx <mailto:cp@xxxx> ] Sent: 11 November 2002 18:16 To: Doc-Uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [doc] FW: Filming Proposal from A.D.Holt Well list, what do you think? Please bear in mind that the most number of cars we have ever assembled in England is 23 and that was at our annual rally this year! More later Chris P..............snip........... Dear Mr. Parnham, My name is Andrew Holt and I am a third year student studying Film and Video Production at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design. As part of our course we are required to produce two completed films per year, which are then internally assessed and graded. This is our third and final year and as such the films produced will form the backbone of our graduation mark. The University recognises the importance of these final projects and has allowed us 'free reign' as filmmakers in terms of subject matter, structure and aesthetic / filmic language; indeed we are positively encouraged to explore ideas and address key issues which we personally feel are important. As Director of one of these projects, I have decided to make a film about a subject which has always fascinated me - the story of John DeLorean. The basic premise for this film revolves around the final climatic events which lead to the downfall of the automotive mogul, John Zachary Delorean. A Government rigged cocaine deal seals the fate of Delorean's self named car company and personal reputation. However, despite bankruptcy and a failed dream, John Z Delorean is equitted on the grounds of unlawful Government entrapment; leaving only the car which bare's his name to continue his unique legacy. The film will not seek to catalogue in minute detail all the cascade events which lead to John Delorean's self destruction; instead the narrative will be told through the eyes of DeLorean himself. In this way the focus of the film can remain an entirely subjective viewpoint, highlighting the persona and mindset of John DeLorean from his own unique perspective. It is my desire that the audience should share his outlook; thereby sharing his feelings of anxiety, determination and desperation as the story unfolds. The project is a completely self-financed endeavour and is to be shot with Super 16mm camera equipment onto colour stock. The overall running time for the piece will be approximately 10 - 12 minutes upon completion. The crew and myself are currently in the intensive stages of pre-production which, as I am sure you can appreciate, is a task of some scale. We are currently seeking to obtain rights and permissions for several key 'DeLorean' sources as well as securing several shooting locations. However, one of the most obvious challenges lies in obtaining a number of actual DeLorean 'DMC-12' automobiles to feature in our film. It is in regard to this particular matter that I am writing to you. We are attempting to recreate a portion of the DeLorean car plant in Belfast, Ireland for the purposes of the 'Factory Scene'. This scene will depict a large number of 'DMC-12' automobiles lining the interior of a warehouse, being inspected and prepared for transportation by a group of 'DMCL' employees. I envisage a line of pristine looking cars four or five rows deep, stretching back into the distance. In order to achieve this effectively, I need to round up as many 'DMC-12' cars as possible and have them collected together in the warehouse location for a single day of filming. Knowing the rarity of DeLorean cars in this country, I thought that my best option was to approach you directly. I am looking to collectively approach all those UK residents who own a 'DMC-12' automobile in order to see if they would be interested in helping us. Perhaps your organisation could assist us in this process? If successful, I am hoping that this could prove to be a mutually beneficial endeavour; providing an opportunity for your members to meet collectively whilst providing me with the 'setting' I need for the project. I am sure that this would be hugely enjoyable experience for all those involved and would allow all those owners / members the chance to see their cherished automobiles on film. Any help or advice you could offer regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated. Filming will take place in late April 2003, exact dates are still to be confirmed. If you have any further questions or would like a copy of our production pack, including script, synopsis and crew CV's. Please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
