About the origins of the PRV V6 design ideas!

This list came from the The Douvrin PRV Six-Engine Association. Interesting
story.

<<Greetings to all our Members!

I have spent some time researching the very early
stages of the PRV V6 engine development.

Piero Casucci tells in his book "Lancia Thema" that the
PRV V6 design was most of all influenced by the
development of the Citroen SM Maserati engine. Piero
Casucci, of course, is Italian by nationality, but in
my opinion he is anyway a very reliable source of
information even in this case.

The Citroen SM engine was developed by Giulio Alfieri
who worked for Maserati, after Citroen acquired the
ownership of the Maserati marque. Maserati had a good
reputation in France, and now it had even a French
owner. Therefore, also in my opinion, it seems quite
natural that the SM project led to another "French
connection", with the Peugeot-Renault axle (Volvo later
involved) who had the aim
of developing a French performance engine.

We must keep in mind, however, that there is very
strong evidence about the PRV V6 project being
originally a V8 one! So the question remains, what was
the original model that Peugeot and Renault used as an
example for a V8 engine ? Logically thinking, this V8
would have been the Maserati Mexico 4,2 litre V8 from
which the Citroen SM V6 was developed.

Please comment this information if you have anything to
add or any serious opinions.

Best Regards,

Mr. Pertti Tapio Mäkelä
