Hi Folks, I just thought I'd let you all know whats going on with 551. After the engine bay fire, Jinx (551)has had all the wireing looms etc replaced. (Thanks to Dave Howarth) The fuel lines that melted have now been made out of stainless steel braided pipes. All ht's etc are new. Took it to the local bosche specialist who checked it out. The metering head was totally blocked in 3 outlet ports, the warm up regulator was did nothing but look pritty, The idling ecu was faulty, cold start circuit didn't work and the fuel pump needed re positioning.lower in the chassis. (It no longer lives in the tank). I have replaced the metering head and warm up regulator, sorted the idle ecu, changed the fuel filter and repositioned the pump. It now idles but doesn't like being revved unless you give it a drink of petrol down the air intake then it revves great and smoothly untill the fuels gone. then it pops and bangs untill you let it idle. It's fuel starvation I am sure. My thoughts are that it's the fuel pump (non Bosche) not upto delivering the correct amount of fuel at the right pressure to let the engine do much more than idle. I am sure it's nothing tho do with the Lambda circuit as Jinx, no longer has any Lambda bits in it. Any thoughts? I have now repaired the drivers electric window mechanism and door lock. The only electrical faults are now the temp sender, and need to source a fuel sender unit. Other bits I need are windscreen (£50 deposit on one of Daves) a new head lining, and to source the metal heat shield that holds the bottom of the rear bumper to the chassis. Oh and new door seals Jinx leaks like a sivve. Mick Kerfoot VIN 551 (Jinx)
