Thanks for all the advice, I actually bought a Battery for a Volkswagen Golf TDI and it works a treat (only cost £31.00).  I also purchased a battery conditioner that is permanently linked to the battery and has a jack plug popping out of the battery compartment cover.  This plugs into a mains device that slowly tops-up and uses battery power to fool the battery that it is working - thus increasing the life of the battery and ensuring that the battery is on full charge every time I power the beast up!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can get the AC Delco ones from the Diesel Centre for under £50 - the same one Dave has been getting from his local place - the ones with the screw terminals

If you want a really high quality battery, check out www.dmstech.co.uk and look at the Hawker SBS 40 or equivalent Red Top (I think they're 45Ah). These are used in aircraft, and have a short circuit current of some 1400A - this is the "cold crank" rating on a car battery. They are sealed gel cells and are expensive. This is why I just went for an AC Delco.

A lot of Robot Wars entries use the Hawkers - our robot draws in excess of 500A during a fight.

Can anybody recommend a battery for the Delorean.  Mine's had it and it looks like the original owner got to work on it with a stanley knife to cut bits offit to fit into the battery recess.  My friendly auto-electrician (who wired up my battery cut-off switch - Chris) recommended a battery of average quality as batteries tend to deteriorate if they are not used regularly.
