Re: [doc] That Delorean sound...the same in BTTF?

Stephen,

The BTTF Delorean was a dubbed V8 for the film as the Delorean has a much higher note and wouldn't have fitted the film (in retrospect of course!). I, amoungst others, would truly love our cars to sound *that* good!
Major differences to the car included the tires and the front being lower... but not with springs - oh no - they used bricks!
All the other gubbins was just time stuff... though as has been noticed before there were several cars used including autos, manuals and various bonnet designs through the course of the three films... could those count as modifications? ;o)

HTH!

PS - Mine sounds like the car from the film..... it has no exhaust! Hurrah!

Cheers for that Martin,

I'll try and make it up for Sunday, and being the friendly and
helpful person I am, stay till the end and dismantle the stand. The engine
sound seems very promising indeed, can't wait to hear that burble for the
first time. Out of interest, if you think back to the BTTF films, did they
use the real sound of the car, or was it tinkered with a great deal to sound
beefier for the film. Were there any other differences between real Ds and
the film cars, apart from the extra time travel dummy gear all over the car.
Was it lowered. trim changed, wheel changed etc etc. Would be interesting to
know how different the real car is from the one that most people percieve in
the film.
Open discussion on that on, regards

Stephen.

Stay till the show finishes and help dismantle the stand, then you'll hear how they sound.

It's a well muffled sound - there's no burbling, but not much lagging in the
engine bay like you get now, so the result is a fairly loud deep throb. I
particularly like the steam that comes from the exhausts when its cold. It
doesn;t rev like a Ferrari though, but it's nothing to be ashamed of either.

The only car that sounds better IMO is my mate's Skyline GTS-R which is a
race-tuned strait-6 - even smoother and deeper. None of your tin-pot
vauxhall nova noises!

It looks like it will have to be Sunday for me. If anyone is thinking of
going that day, and feels like bringing their Delorean, I'd really like to
hear the car ticking over, as have not experienced this yet. I think I
really ought to hear before I get too much further towards investing in one.
I've listened to a few recordings on the internet, but all were too muffled.

If any of you guys were to describe the engine sound, how would you
do it. Does it sound like any other car, does it have a big engine or small
engine sound, does it turn heads? Does that 2.8 litre block sound sporty,
even grunty? I just don't really know yet, and would like to. Answers on a
postcard(of a Delorean of course:) Regards,

Stephen.
