John, I think your interpretation of events is a bit "over simplified", if you read ALL the books available on the subject, and were around at the time, following events from this side of the Atlantic, you may have come to a more "balanced" view of events. Very few people who worked at the factory think it all failed simply because of some government inspired conspiracy. I think it has been established that the moulds were sent to a scrap yard ( in the normal way if a company goes bust and everything has to cleared out) then when the fishing people came along looking for big heavy chunks on metal to weight their nets, hay presto...they bought them. ....no conspiracy..just normal business practice. Poor financial control, and over-optimistic sales predictions are hardly ever mentioned as important factors in the companies demise. Whatever your take on past events is, the fact remains that had the factory survived and prospered, and produced many more cars, then our few remaining one's would not be as rare, desirable and collectable as they undoubtedly are. I love the car and the notoriety that surrounds it. BTW....BTTF 1 was shown last night in the UK ( again) and has anyone ever noticed that when the car first "flies off" it has 3 amber door lights, but when it lands later some of them turned red. Chris P..... England ( personal view). ----- Original Message ----- From: <deloreanss@xxxx> To: <dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, August 22, 2001 10:56 PM Subject: Re: [DML] Delorean in People Magazine > Mike, > > I wanted to chime in about the molds for the Delorean's body. The way I understand it is that when JZD came out of his first round of legal battles he made mention of re-starting the company. What to keep in mind here is that the conservative party in Britain (the Torries) is the main reason for the initial collapse of the company. The Delorean project was a pet of the Labour party government which approved the massive loans to DMC in order to create jobs in Belfast. This program was one of the few that was actually turning a profit for the government when the switch took place in '81 from Labour to Conservative. So, the conservative party, wanting to rid itself of any labour party programs (successful or not), basically reneged on the loans to DMC. This forced the whole money scramble, which led to the entrapment of JZD. Thus, back to the mention of restarting the company, when JZD mentioned another attmept, the British gov't took the molds and sold them to a fishing comp! > any. The company used the molds > as weights for fish nets and the are at the bottom of Galloway bay, completely ruined. So this is why there are no new fenders and such. A company in Europe bought and old ferry boat, an in the process of restoring it, they discovered actual pictures of the molds being pushed into the bay off of that boat! I can't find the URL, but those pictures are posted somewhere. Maybe someone else knows it? Anyway, that's the way I think it went. > > John Weaver > DMC #10527 > > > Before posting messages or replies, see the posting policy rules at: > www.dmcnews.com/Admin/rules.html > > To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: > moderator@xxxx > > Your use of Yahoo!
