Engine Performance Upgrade

Hi All,

For the past two weeks, I have meen mailing back and forth to a small
engineering firm who specialise in performance upgrades to engines. To
cut a log explanation short, they work through "modernising" engines
right up to race-tuning them. By "modernising" I mean that as we all
know it's possible to get nearly 200bhp from a 2l _production_ engine -
I'm thinking of the Renault Clio Sport. Engine development here in
Europe has far exceeded what goes on in the states due to our high fuel
costs and enviromental concerns.

The company in question HAS worked with the PRV-6 in the past, though
mainly work on ford engines. They have a set of heads from a PRV and
confirmed theres "loads of room for improvement". I need to speak to the
chap properly and will do so on Monday, but here's a short list of the
possibilities:

Replacement cams
re-working of the heads to enlarge the valves
re-working of the intakes
complete re-build of the throttle bodies (something they specialise in)
replacement of the injection/ignition to modern computer controlled
mappable system
lightened flywheel

They only work with engines, not whole cars, but I have spoken to Dave
and he has an engine which can potentially be used for work. Once work
has been completed on this engine, we can then work the "upgrades" into
any other engine. In other words, the cost of development of this one
engine will be far greater than subsequent mods.

SO: Is anyone interested in coming in on this project to gain more power
from our beloved DeLoreans? I asked for a ballpark figure on "the whole
shebang", and £2-3000 was quoted. If a bunch of us get together on this,
the cost will be affordable, and at the end of it all, we have a spare
engine which should be worth quite a bit!

Performance imporvement should get the engine to well in excess of
200bhp. This may require upgrade of fuel pump and lines in addition to
what goes on in the engine bay.

>From the start, I've made it clear that anything that will substantially
alter the appearance of the engine will be unacceptable.

So. Who's interested?

Martin
