Fuse Location

Hi Chris,
The fuse holder looked like a professional fit, but not a
factory mod (I don't
think so anyway). Fuse position 7 in my fuse box is slightly melted. I think
this
was due to dirty contacts. This must have caused a past owner to have a
separate
fuse holder for the position 7 fuse. This was a single blade fuse holder with
two
wires connected to the two brown wires at the back of the fuse box (position
7).
It was not secured to anything and was just laying next to the main fuse box.
The cable connecting the holder was not 20 amp rated, and the fuse had been
replaced at some time with a 30amp rather than a 20amp, that should be used.
My guess is that the resistance built up in the circuit due to dirty contacts
and
a bad connection. This caused it to overheat, made worse by the wrong fuse
rating.
Maybe your car has a similar problem? Its worth checking before moving on to
check other items.
Had a holiday yesterday, and fitted a new passenger side electric window
motor
and mechanism that I have been meaning to do since Christmas!
Just the door locks and electric clock to sort out now, and all the
electrical bits
will be fixed.
Regards
Nick H
