Hi John,
For Insurance quotes etc. spend some time going through the various
websites. A good place to start is www.confused.com they search most of the
online services, saves you entering the same details endlessly.

If you're going for fully comp cover check how much difference putting a
greater excess on your policy helps things.

Also, think about adding another (older) named driver, maybe your
parents/uncle etc. may want to drive the car on occassions.  They can have a
very positive effect on your premium, even though they will not be main
drivers.

Also don't overestimate your annual mileage.  The more miles you say you
will do the higher your premium.

Basically spend some time on people like Direct Line's website altering
details of what car, engine sizes, mileage, driver's etc. you might get, and
see what difference things make.

I would also say that Leeds has quite a good public transport network, and
isn't so good for driving and parking around.  Have a good think about the
cost of having a car and whether you want to be your friends free taxi
service versus the cost of getting taxis/buses when required.

Thinking again, I think i will go for the 1990s Mini
option (cost less than 1500!!)... Anyone got any good
insurance company to recommand?? Anything as cheap as
possible really, for a new license driver like me.
