Re: [doc] Friday 13th Strikes! overheating

This is a good test only if it confirms loss of compression (and even
then it doesn't necessarily mean it's a head gasket problem). There are
many ways in which a head gasket failure will manifest itself on a D and
certainly loss of compression can sometimes only happen with the engine
under load for long periods.

Usually a head-gasket failure will mean the car is incapable of
maintaining its temperature with the fans running due to bubbles
invading the water pump - this is the most common symptom, but Rich H
currently has a nasty oil leak from one head and there's always the
chicken-soup which is less common on a D..

Overheating is most often caused by a failed thermostat, water pump, or
a radiator that's getting sludged up - but the white smoke form the
exhaust in this case suggests it is head gaskets.
